While you are correct. The guy is going to turn 36 this year and has a whole lot of wear on the tires. He could only manage to start 7 games last year due to health... Didn't log a single INT and a whopping single sack on the season... I hope he can come back and produce at really high level but just like anyone at some point the body fails them and it tends to creep up in a hurry more often then not.
That's fine, but Minter had 0 INTs in his career as a Cardinal and averaged 1.25 sacks per year during his time here.

I don't see Dansby anywhere on the Bengals injury report from last season. He played in 16 games but only started 7. Despite that, he played 71.8% of the defensive snaps—the most of any of the Bengals' linebackers.

You don't have to play at a really high level to more than replace Kevin Minter.

Bengals cut MLB Rey Maualuga, save $3.75M

Bengals released MLB Rey Maualuga.

The writing was on the wall after the Bengals signed Kevin Minter. Maualuga was a seven-year starter in Cincy, but injuries and ineffectiveness reduced him to a part-time role (326 snaps) in 2016. His release saves $3.75 million against the cap. Entering his age-30 season, Maualuga should resurface closer to the veteran minimum.

I think he would be a good two down ISLB, but can he play special teams? He is probably faster then KM but I don't see much of a difference other then speed.

Wouldn't -at least on paper - the trade-off of losing Minter and then picking up the guy he replaced mean that the team was going in the wrong direction by losing a better LB and adding a less-talented one?

If you're speaking about Cincinnati, they saved money on the cap to release Ray M, so it might not be an issue of whose better. Just an issue of who is a better value.

Minter is faster and better in coverage than RM and isn't the knucklehead that RM is. We want leaders not nut jobs.
