Scheduling

Why wouldn't the Heat/Piston series start tommorrow instead of Spurs/Suns. Albiet the Suns are finally on ABC but at what cost. Another day off to prepare for the Conference Finals would have been deserved. Pistons/Pacers ended Thurs and they will have 3 days off but the Suns win a overtime road game and then have to start the Series on Sun. I can only imagine that the leaque office just does not give much consideration to having a flexible schedule to accomodate the West Coast teams, I have a bad feeling the Suns could come out flat tommorrow and unfortunately lose the home court advantage right out of the gate.

Only one day off from an OT game. Ouch... I hope Suns players are "iron men"... lol

I think it's something of a wash since the Spurs had to take a long trip back from Seattle and now have to turn around and come here. The Sonics really did play the Spurs tough. I think they are worn down some.

It may work to our advantage to play sooner. TD's ankle is hurt and Manu is banged up too. Our guys seem to be pretty resilient on a day's rest. I just hope it is enough time to prepare mentally for the game.

East coast Bias? You're kidding, right? It's all about TELEVISION - are you gonna tell me ABC wasn't going to have a game on all weekend long? And don't give me nonsense about - well they couldhave put the Pistons on ABC on Sunday because contracturally - TNT owns the rights to the Eastern Conference Finals.

It has nothign to do with East Coast bias and EVERYTHING to do with money - just like everything else in life.

I realize that the Sunday game would have been Phoenix/Dallas but why have a series start before it had to. In the first round everybody plays until they are scheduled to start the second round, no series starts sooner than it has to.

My point on bias is that why would a cable network want the East Coast series, because they would get better ratings, that's bias. West Coast games never get the same hype unless the Lakers are involved.

TNT could just as well scheduled Detroit/Miami for today, the series for both teams were over. Right after the game there were no doubts when the series started, it was stated as Monday. Why does ABC have more control over scheduling than TNT, so Shaq can get more rest?

cheesebeef, always enjoy your reactions.

Again, after the fact, but I am going to harp on this again. If TV really wanted a good series, I just don't understand why this series had to start on Sunday. The odds were in SA favor with the Suns short rest and being short handed without JJ.

Look at the way the rest of the schedule in the series falls. The next game is Tuesday night, then game 3 is Saturday. What was the hurry to get thing started when there will be a 4 day gap in the scheduling. Tues., Thurs. and Sat. seems more fair to both teams. If the Suns fall down 0-2 on their home court the most pessismistic scenerio could say the series will be over in 4, then they will lose TV revenue for possibly 3 games, that's does not make any sense.

Whether it was ABC or ESPN the money goes to the same corporate bottom line.

I understand what you are saying about the schedule, but how is this 'East Coast Bias'?

The eastern teams get a later game 1 start despite their series ending first.

Giving the East more favorable scheduling, their series could have started on Saturday and Detroit could have been giving a day and a half rest as well. Just because they are the defending champs and Shaq could have used some additional rest, the series was 'mysteriously' delayed to Monday. If weekends get better ratings why not start the series on Saturday.

and, that's why after playing Sunday and Tuesday, they won't play again until Saturday. And all of the teams knew this heading into the playoffs.

While we're at it, since Shaq now plays in the Eastern Conference and is benefitting from this supposed bias, what was it when we got "all Shaq all the tiem" and he played in Los Angeles?
