picked it up at MSNBC.com sports--

interesting draft implications;

Raiders take somebody other than Russell -- Calvin Johnson?

Two qbs now to choose from starting at pick 2--

does this get Joe Thomas past both Det and Clev?

If C Johnson is gone -- does TB go Joe Thomas at #4?

Adrian Peterson available at #5?

I love the offseason

No doubt they take Calvin Johson in that case, IMO.

They may be taking CJ regardless of moving Moss.

They have been trying to acquire QB's all offseason (Garcia/Plummer/Rodgers).

The worst part is poor Aaron Rodgers, he avoids having to be the guy to replace Brett Favre, but he has to play for the Raiders.

But yes they should pick Calvin Johnson if they make this deal.

lane kiffin indicated that they would take Russell with the first pick. GB doesn't want to move Rodgers. KGB and a pick for Moss is more like it. i still say raiders keep moss and draft russell.

whoa. If true, that means GB is once again in the market for a QB. Maybe they'd trade up to get Quinn?

Yeah, Kiffin was gushing on the NFL Network yesterday following JaMarcus Russell's pro day workout.

I can't see the Raiders taking Rodgers.

I hope Oakland plans on taking Jamarcus Russell. The draft needs to go like this:

1. OAK - Russell
2. DET - Quinn
3. CLE - Peterson
4. TB - C. Johnson
5. AZ - Joe Thomas

If I'm Rodgers, I'd much rather actually play for a bad team that sitting on the bench behind the guy who won't let go.

HARLAN SAYS MOSS TRADE NOT IMMINENT

Outgoing Packers CEO Bob Harlan, who has been more talkative than ever over the past few days, tells the Green Bay Press-Gazette that a deal for Raiders receiver Randy Moss is not close to happening.

Harlan bases his assessment on the fact that G.M. Ted Thompson left on Tuesday for a scouting trip, and has not phoned in to tell Harlan that a deal was close.

“If [a trade] was that close, [Thompson] would have called us by now,” Harlan said.

Of course, given that Harlan has been flapping his lips about the Moss situation for most of the past week, maybe the close-vested Thompson realized that giving Harlan a head's up was the equivalent of shouting the news from the middle of Times Square with a megaphone.

And the fact that Harlan didn't say something like, "I have no idea what you're talking about" or "We have no interest in Randy Moss" or "Randy Moss will be doing the Lambeau Leap over my dead body" tells us that something is going on -- and that at this point it's more likely a matter not of "if" but "when."

This bit of info is interesting ...

WOULD MOSS TRADE OPEN DOOR FOR JOHNSON?

If, as now seems likely, the Oakland Raiders ship receiver Randy Moss to Green Bay in exchange for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, we believe that Georgia Tech receiver Calvin Johnson would become Oakland's primary target with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Johnson is, in our opinion, a can't-miss prospect with a combination of size and speed and hands and, uncharacteristically at the receiver position, not a hint of a bad attitude.

So while it's a 50-50 proposition at best when burning a top-five pick on a potential franchise quarterback, Johnson's chances of becoming a long-term contributor are much greater, we believe.

And there's a wrinkle to all of this that we find very intriguing. Packers quarterback Brett Favre is pushing the team to acquire Moss. If Moss goes, the door is open for Johnson to be taken with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Favre is represented by Bus Cook. Cook also is involved in the representation of Moss, and the Moss transaction depends in large part on Moss and his agents working out a restructured contract with Packers.

So if that gets done, then Johnson is poised to be the first guy off of the board.
His agent? Bus Cook.

We're not suggesting that Cook is trying to engineer the Moss trade so that Johnson will have a better shot at being the first overall pick. But the possibility of one client being the No. 1 selection in 2007 surely has at least entered the mind of the guy who surely has some influence over the extent to which Moss will be willing to accept the Packers' terms.

True and maybe he'd like being close to home(he's from Chico) but the Raiders are the worst run organization in the NFL right now, he might get
killed in that offense, ask Andrew Walter.

If you was Millen who would you rather have? Joe Thomas and Stanton or Quinn and Staley?

Gambit, I always thought you were pretty sharp, but anybody who thinks living and working outside in Green Bay in winter is "serving in heaven" needs to seek help. :)

I can't wait to see Moss put up a goose egg the first time the thermometer drops below 20.

Thomas and Stanton. As long as Martz is the OC, he's going to refuse any "franchise" QB that you try and force on him, and get the QB killed while he's doing it.

You're right, Green Bay in Winter is much more akin to Cocytus than to the Empyrean. Thanks for setting me straight. :)

So basically Rodgers has the option to serve in Cocytus, or go to rule in Oakland, which would be like having a giant 3-faced Al Davis chewing on you for eternity. (no, even I don't know what this is supposed to be).

Nothing to do with the Moss trade.

Kevin Berry is on the block and the Cardinals, Cowboys, Redskins, Texans and Raiders are teams to that could use the big OT, and be trading partners.

If the Packers want to trade up to grab Peterson, Nick Barnett, Kevin Berry and their first round pick, where we may be able to take Levi Brown, could maybe be a fair trade.

Who's Kevin Berry? Stats, Inc. doesn't have any information on him. Doesn't even list him on the Packers' roster. Neither does NFL.com. Oh, it's "Barry", with an "a". Here's his NFL.com player's page. Five-year veteran out of Arizona. Just a depth guy, it looks like. Didn't play at all last season. Doesn't even show up on their NFL.com roster.

Man, he's like the NFC version of Brandon Gorin, isn't he? I like Nick Barnett, but I'm not sure him, the 16th overall pick, and a guy who committed 5 penalties in 16 games with 1 start is really going to be worth the #5 overall pick.

He was on the injury reserve all season after a surgery. But yes he will probably not be more than a depth guy. He can play both tackle and guard and i believe he is better as a run blocker than pass blocker. He is pretty big (he has a weight issue i think) and has a lot of strength. I think one of the main reasons that Packers wants to get rid of him is that he isn't a good fit for the zone blocking scheme.

If anyone wants him i guess the price is a late second day draft pick. My guess would be either yours 7th rounder this year or a conditional '08 6th rounder based on Barry being on the roster after training camp.
