I found Fargo to be boring and not even remotely entertaining.

Other overrated movies:

Raising Arizona
Big Lebowski
Debby Does Dallas.

Lebowski is underrated. It isn't even rated for god's sakes.

Full Metal Jacket - 1st 45 minutes are absolutely wonderful, the rest is mediocre at best taking the movie downward

Have you seen it? How many times? Do you understand it's place in cinema history?

Yes, a few times and I know its place in cinema history. It had wonderful cinematography that was inventive for its time and was one of the best to use sound in the time. It set future endeavors and was a key to making what movies are today

I'm not disagreeing on its influence or how inventive it was

Do you honestly think that it is the 2nd greatest movie of all time?

I knew this would draw a bad reaction but its my opinion

No, I think it's the 3rd greatest movie of all time. :D

You take your top 10, whatever they are, and they wouldn't exist if it weren't for Citizen Kane. Admittedly, the story is not that exciting, I've been bored with that at times. But, like you said, there is no denying its influence on movies past 1940. I have heard people say the screenplay is solid, but nobody has ever confused it with the genius that is Chinatown, for example (talking about the script).

Why is it considered the first or second greatest movie of all time on virtually every critical list? Disagreeing with "best of" lists is normal--and encouraged. I can see how someone can say they didn't like it (mostly because it does take a little patience to get into it--especially if you don't pay much attention to things like shot construction, framing, and even the subtleties of acting). I just can't see how anyone can say it's overrated and in the same breath praise it's great influence on the entire movie business. But hey, like you, that's only my opinion. :D

Fargo is another good choice here.

I was not entertained by this movie in the least.

I just love this quote. It says a lot about your thought process....which I totally approve of.
