Going way back this week - all of my movies will be older than Kate (and some older than me).

All great older movies that pass the test of time.

The first is considered one of the best movies ever, and the most nominated (Academy Awards) movie in history - All About Eve.

Tagline: It's all about women---and their men!

Plot Outline An ingenue insinuates herself in to the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends.

Plot Synopsis: Aspiring actress Eve Harrington maneuvers her way into the lives of Broadway star Margo Channing, playwright Lloyd Richards and director Bill Sampson. This classic story of ambition and betrayal has become part of American folklore. Bette Davis claims to have based her character on the persona of film actress Talullah Bankhead. Davis' line "Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night" is legendary, but, in fact, all of the film's dialog sparkles with equal brilliance.

Excellent movie - 1950 classic starring Bette Davis, Anne Baxter (Nefritiri in "The Ten Commandments", George Sanders and Celeste Holm. The mousy Eve Harrington insinutes herself into Margo Channing's life - and ends up taking over everything.

A very young Marilyn Monroe has a small part in the film.

The movie's line "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night" was voted as the #9 movie quote by the American Film Institute

Bette Davis's performance as Margo Channing is ranked #5 on Premiere Magazine's 100 Greatest Performances of All Time.

Was voted the 21st Greatest Movie of all time by Entertainment Weekly.

Ranks first in the Most Academy Award Nominated Films with 14 nominations, set a record which has been tied only by the No.2 Titanic (1997).

Absolutely AMAZING movie.

This movie, and The Philadelphia story are my favorite classic movies.

Great choice.

I believe this movie did win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

It’s on my list of Classics to watch, as well as my list of IMDB’s top 250 to watch. I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’ll be watching it soon, I'll move it to the top now that it's a Movie of the Day.

One of my favorites, as close to a perfect movie as you can get--definitely on par with Citizen Kane, Casablanca and The Third Man.

Never seeen the Third Man, although I need to get the Criterion.

I honestly think Citizen Kane is overrated.... although I have only seen it once through too. (I thought the same thing until I watched the Sixth Sense twice, where I could pick up on all of the details of the movie)

That's not an unusual opinion, but if you take into consideration the industry at the time and the other films released around that time, it is truly a remarkable accomplishment. And they were all no-name film actors that got their start in Welles' theatrical company. Incredible.

Suffice to say, Joseph Cotten, who was in Citizen Kane, was the lead in The Third Man... Just a little bit of trivia, sorry to detract from the thread.

I just watched it. I’m glad that I finally got around to watching this one. Great acting performances all around and a very well written script.
