he got canned in tennessee for not firing coaches, right? maybe the cards brass made it clear they wanted to retain certain coaches (bettcher)

If we are limited HC offers to having to keep Bettcher, the team hasn't figured it out. I'm not a Bettcher hater but he is not the gold standard or anything.

Addition by subtraction. Something didn't feel right about Munchak to the Cardinals from the beginning. He has been raving about being in Pittsburgh. He said he loves everything about being there. And the feeling is mutual amongst the owners, coaches, players and fans.

What's interesting is how many of these badly run teams (Giants, Colts, Titans) will kick themselves in the pants if Tomlin becomes available but they already hired someone else. ROFL.

Then again, if nothing has been signed, one of them could ditch their guy and go after Tomlin, leaving one high and dry.

So, Munchak turned down a HC offer to become an OC? Sounds fishy. I'm guessing he turned it down due to Keim's brilliance of not having a QB on the roster...making the job look extremely unattractive. Either way...glad Munchak is out of the equation.
I think it is time to at least consider that Cards gig is not a destination job.

This event is eerily similar to the U of Tennessee Vols HC search. Seemingly not many want the job.

Have a horrible O-Line...a WR group that, outside of Larry, is barely NFL quality...No good TE's...No QB...and the oldest roster in the league. We have good pieces on defense, and a great RB, but that's about it. Keim has really dug us into a hole.

If Tomlin comes available, Bidwill should give Tomlin an ownership share to hire him if that's what it takes.

Blah Blah Blah on DeFilippo and Flores. For every McVay there are 10 young failed coaches.

Oh Well, sign me up for Bettcher, Pagano and McCoy.

It would be interesting to know what the league-wide perception is (from GMs and CEOs) on Mike Tomlin. He's not highly regarded by Steelers' fans, that's for sure.

Or he is going to be Tomlin's new OC.
That makes no sense!

HC or OC? You tell me? Unless as I said he’s in line to be the Stealers future HC or something he didn’t like in AZ.

This smells like 10 day old tuna something is really fishy here

The perception around the league is that the Cardinals are not go-getters. They are not major players in FA. They "GOT MOSSED" by the Chiefs and Texans for Mahomes and Watson in a year where everyone knew they had to draft a QB. They sign older FAs because they are cheaper and easier to sign. There just isn't a lot of clear direction going on. And because of getting mossed last year---no QBOF in place.

Imagine how much more attractive this job would be if Mahomes or Watson was on the roster.

Arizona has gone back to being the organization where players and coaches go to retire. That's the pervading perception.

Seriously on Mike Tomlin? His wins record are not because of him but in spite of him. Strictly a player's coach who can't control his "stars". How soon some forget his sideline gaffes and there are plenty to choose from.

Prime example #1

Contested catch by Jesse James TE last game of season against Patriots. On the sideline watching the big screen and never thought about different strategies for different outcomes. I could list many brain farts.

etc.

Even McCoy flamed out no?

Don't like Bettcher. But you know what you get with him on defense. May be adding experience of Pagano can help improve the unit.

McCoy is an experienced OK OC.

Keim bought himself some time with Palmer. More time than both parties expected probably, and certainly more than enough time to draft and even groom a young QB. Granted it worked out really well with Palmer and BA. Almost took us to the Superbowl. Keim temporarily fixed our OL with Iupati and Veldher, but missed on all OL draft picks other than maybe Humphries who still has to prove a lot. Basically we are now where we've been when Keim took over as GM: No QB and horrible OL. Not a ringing endorsement. Munchak declining even to interview and top candidates choosing other teams is all we need to know. Flores, Wilks or DeFilippo better turn out great for Keim, and he better does everything in his power to get a legit NFL QB and better OL pieces!

Wild-assed thought:

Let's say...MB and SK love the way the Cards are set up (i.e. culture, staff, roster). Only thing is - they don't have BA.

Two possible strategies: (1) Replace BA with an offensive-minded HC and keep the rest of the staff (minus Amos). (2) Make Bettcher HC, replace Bettcher with another aggressive DC and hire a creative OC.

Likely Outcome: Either DeFelippo or Bettcher becomes HC.

Not to mention a terrible cap situation and a mid Rd pick

McCoy has bombed everywhere he has went. He was only a product of Peyton.

I'm wondering if MB & SK made it clear to Mike Munchak that they want to retain James Bettcher as DC and Munchak didn't like that condition. That, plus MM's love for being in Pittsburgh was enough for him to turn down the 2nd interview.

So...they're hiring Herm Edwards? Awesome!
