Walter - It won't be the first time a fan has jumped ship in frustration, and it won't be the last.

I just hope that, when things cool down and you discover that watching other NFL teams play football is a lot more boring than watching the best and worst of Cardinal football, you'll decide to come back.

I don't agree with your decision to bale, but whenever you decide you want back "in", I'll be the first to say "Welcome!"

(Naturally, if and when you do return, you will be considered a newbie and will have to spring for enough exotic food and drink to feed the entire military).

I'll miss your insightful football discussions of people and strategies. Godspeed.

Next!

Sorry to see you go Walter. I've always enjoyed and respected your articles.

I don't think you'll find a plethora of "Walter Haters" on here....although you may have picked up a few after this article....sounded like sour grapes to me and the Korey Stringer reference was a bit over the top.

I'm willing to give DG a chance. In pro sports sometimes we may not agree with the "motivational" techniques but if it works then great. If it results in guys being cut that are way better than the guys that replace them then that sucks. I don't quite see that happening yet. Kendall was good but I think the guys (or guy) who replaced him should be up to the task.

Some guys play the nice guy and use the rah-rah let's win one for the gipper techniques...sometimes that doesn't work (see Dave McGinnis).

Others use the get your arse in gear or it's the highway method. This approach can be used to different degrees. It can be extreme like Lombardi or Parcells or it can be tempered like Joe Gibbs. I personally approve of the Joe Gibbs approach....but that doesn't make him any better of a coach than Parcells.

The bottom line is that you need to mold your team in a balanced fashion. Ego mania can lead to imbalance (see Buddy Ryan).

The jury is still out on DG. Kendall is exhibit A. Shelton may be exhibit B. Pace could be exhibit C.

Stay tuned.

and I hope neither one of them has to play a snap this year...because this will be one of the most fruitless, wasted years in franchise history.

Kind of like last year? Or the year before that? Or the stellar 3-13 season of 2000 where the Cards were outscored 443-210? Or how about 1997 when the Cards gave up 78 sacks? Or how about 1999 when after rallying to 6-6 the Cards lost their last 4 by the combined score of 145-62.

Tobin and McGinnis gave us the worst 5 year stretch, 1999-2003, since they stopped using leather helmets.

No matter what Green does he cannot make things any worse.

But at any rate Walter must feel like Kwamie Lassiter. Last year posters were nominating him for head coach and now.....

Sorry to see you go walter, hope you change your mind.

I get we're you're coming from but in the end it is just a game and none of us have any ability to change what happens on or off the field.

I wanted Heimerdinger, but I'm convinced Green is the best coach we've had since Coryell. I don't agree with everything he does, but I don't agree with everything anybody does.

Adios Walter.....I would say I'd miss you and all that crap, but that's just what it is......crap. You've changed from one of the BEST posters/writers this board has ever had to one of the most ignorant and among the absolute worst that I've seen.

So while you go crying and turning your back on this team because they didn't hire Mother Theresa to coach the team, the rest of us FANS will be here. But I'm sure you'll spin this when the Cards are in the playoffs next year or the year after saying "how much Green has changed" etc.

See ya later....well maybe not, I think that'd be best.

THis is a football team. This isn't Microsoft. These guys had it too easy, no ne was ever held accountable cuz coach MAc always took the blame for the crap on the field.

The injuries to Shhipp and Anquan were freak injuries that were not as a result of the coach.

Parcells did the same thnig - hell he ran Emmitt out of town.

I wanted the guy from the Eagles Jim Johnson but in the end he could have been awful, I just like how he blitz's a ton.

I know what Walter means and I am sorry if he felt besieged by posters who disagreed with him. I feel his pain because whatever Green is he isn't the new Vince Lombardi or anything he is a modern version of a dictator.

The mind games turn a lot of people off, however it is just Green's way of not being taken advantage of. I think everyone can agree that Mac was a great guy and that some players took advantage of that and contributed to Mac losing his job.

So these players in my mind do not now deserve any sympathy from me a least. They will catch on another team and maybe they will learn from being cut to shreds by Green. Emmitt warned the team last year about all of this saying in effect your head coach is a great guy play for him or they will bring in someone who will torture you and that is exactly what happend.

In life there are always people who take advantage when they should be grateful and need to be put back in thier place. I don't personally like how Green does it but it still is necessary otherwise socialisim would work and it dosen't.

Cheering against the Cards because you have some juvenile hatred for our head coach, whom you have probably never met. Real classy.

In case you were wondering, this message is dripping with sarcasm.

PS - I for one will be rooting for Green. Not because I'm in love with the guy's personality or because I think he does no wrong, but because I'm a Cardinals fan and he's our head coach. Three years, and if we still suck, then give him the boot. Until then, Go Cards and go Green.

Walter didn't say he was against the Cards - few here are - but your logic is ridiculous, here. Using your thought process, if I were to speak against George Bush, I am against America?

I can't stand Al Pedrique, and the season is in the tank, yet I am still a rabid D-Backs fan. I loved Dave McGinnis, but didn't think he made a decent coach for this team.

And, the bottom line is, I don't think Green will add a single soul to the stands. In this town, only winning will do that. Or hiring a former Cowboys coach.

That may be one of the truest statements someone could make. After all, even Coryell took what was a 1972 team with a 4-9-1 record and turned it into a 1973 team with a ....... 4-9-1 record - his worst year. But Coryell also had Pro Bowlers like Jim Hart, Terry Metcalf, & Mel Gray; a luxury Green doesn't have.

The only problem I have with Walter's post is that it is one of those grandstanding "I am leaving" posts that appear to be looking for sympathy or something. A last jab at the establishment, kind of thing. A much better tack to take is to simply leave - those who care would email him, asking why he wasn't posting anymore.

The rest of his post, I may agree with or not. Regardless, his opinion is just as valid as anyone else's here.

Walter's articles are always entertaining.

I always enjoy how he develops a really fine lead paragraph, and then bangs out 800 to 1000 words in support, even when the logic fails. A bit of style over substance, but nevertheless a good read. He's certainly bright enough to know that not all will agree and some of the responses will be snide... so, one can only wonder - why once a year, or so... he gets all emotional and pulls this stunt.

Walter suggests that professional athletes need more "hugs" than "slugs"... Well, let's all send out a collective "hug" to poor little Walter, and maybe he'll come back and play. :D

it's a shame Walter seems to miss the idea of tough love. with this team, you gotta beat the pride into them, literally. I hope DG does just that, and then maybe Walter will bring his ball back so we can all play again.

Yes, and just a month ago Walter wrote that the following in his 50 questions "article." I am confused.
43. Will the Cardinals be one of the NFL's surpise teams this year? Yes.

44. Will Dennis Green garner Coach of the Year consideration? Yes.

Well, I've just finished flushing a copy of this post down the toilet, with my morning steam...I'm feeling a lot better already.

Sorry to see you go, Walter, but I think it's time...You've obviously jumped over the edge you've been staring at for some time now.

Take care...

Walter I to enjoy your articles but after so many sub .500 seasons I say give a winning coach a chance. In the workplace I don't know of to many employers who would put up with you when everything you produce gets sent back.

Good luck Walter. There are times in life where one must make a unpopular stand because the strength of his convictions will not allow him to do otherwise. You have reached that point. I understand and admire you for having the gumption to speak your mind and take your stand.

After a little time has passed, you may soften your stance or gain new information that will alter how you feel about this issue. If that comes to pass, I for one, will welcome you back into the fold.

Waaaaa! Boo Hoo! If you two don't like it tell Skkorp. I can have opinions too.

Nobody's saying you can't have opinions. It's simply the way you choose to voice those opinions that is the issue (at least for me). You seem to have all the tact of a bull in a china shop...(hint for you: that's not a good thing)

I think Walter, as a long time contributor to this site, has earned a bit more respect than to be dismissed with a "OMG what a pathetic excuse! Go Home then. Find another team to root for." IMO, that response is classless.

Maybe I'm way of base, but I expect more from a moderator. Maybe you are simply incapable of trying to have some semblance of class, I don't know. I do know that if this were my site, and a moderator made a post like that it'd be his last post as a mod. But that's just me...I try to have some respect for others. Seems to me that Nidan, Chandler Mike, Section 11, Skkorp, Alan, MadCardDisease do to.

You?

Thats your opinion just like Endzone has one. I disagree with your opinion. He deserves no respect from me.

Well for one its not your site. And for two if I'm not a mod then so what I come here because I am a fan. I was asked to do this.

My "tactless" response was in response to a better than thou attitude. I don't feel sorry that he's leaving, if your going to complain like that and moan because its not your way...then go home.

Walter obviously likes the attention; he wouldn’t have made a long Farwell speech if he didn't. He's looking for the people patting him on the back saying "please stay". If your going to go just go.

Walter -

You have contributed so much time, effort, and insight to this board that your temporary hiatus is well earned. I, for one, salute you having the courage to voice your opinon knowing it would we an unpopular one.

This I agree with. Still doesn't mean that one has to be a classless jerk about it.

Hoping that players don't play for a coach and hoping someone loses there job before even 2 preseason games have been played isn't being a jerk?
