No i don't have the #'s to crunch this proposed trade but this line-up would be exactly the type of offensive/defensive mix that would strike fear into our opponents "after" April. No more matador defense at crunch time.

We may win a few more regular season games w/Marion & sell a few more tickets but when it comes time to make a run in the playoffs, Ron Artest is exactly the type of baller we need to compliment what we've got in Nash,Stat,Bell,& Barbosa & co.

I'm all for trading Marion but not for such an inferior player who chokes even more in playoffs and kills his teams offense by pounding the ball.

First of all, Marion is a garbage rebounder. Don't get me wrong,he's a talented & valuable rebounder but Artest is a rebounder on both ends of the floor. Marion is not a better defender than Artest(weak side or not).
Anyway, this thread is not a straight up comparison of the two. It is simply about the fact IMO that Ron Artest in place of Shawn Marion during the post-season with this SUNS team gives us a better chance to get it done.
Artest's history is well documented here. He's not a choir boy(i have another thread on the SUNS & choir boys) & he certainly comes with risks.

I've watched Artest in the playoffs with his sub 40% shooting jacking up most of his teams shots. Atleast Marion stops shooting when he is hitting shots at such a low rate.

I'm sorry but that is an "Atypical" SUNS fan response....always thinking about the offense. I mean no disrespect either. We have the same passion & ultimate goals for our team but IMO your wrong about Artest. He wouldn't be called upon to shoot much here, & Marions entire game for the most part tends to fade when he's struggling offensively.

Actually Marion's game does not fade when he's not scoring. Even in the '05 WCF when he was being totally shut down offensively he was still get 11rpg. And I'm well aware the Suns wouldn't need Artest's offense, but Artest wouldn't see it that way and he'll dominate the ball for long periods of time if he doesn't get his touches.

Part of defense is also rebounding. This is an area in which the Suns struggle, and we should trade our best rebounder for a guy who struggles to pull down half of the rebounds as Shawn does? Ron is a great defender, but Shawn is not chump change either. You don't get your name in the defensive player of the year hat by being just a "good" defender.

Shawn is also an ironman. He's around 80 every year despite the big minutes. Can your boy Ronnie say the same?

Imagine what would happen if the Suns had Ron Artest against the Spurs last year. Horry checks Nash into the boards and Ron Artest kills someone. I don't want that headcase anywhere near this team. On talent alone I think he could replace Marion but he's got way too much baggage.

No doubt. Here in lies the the problem with the quest for the ultimate prize using the "model citizen" approach.
Lets hope the SUNS have a plan for avoiding our post-season short comings.

Has anyone ever guarded Tim Duncan effectively? The guy is arguably the best PF of all-time. If you rate someone's defense by how well they guard Tim Duncan, then next to no one gets a passing grade.
