Coordinators can be football experts doesnt make them a good HC, see Norv Turner.
He never said the words "the head coach will be a good head coach" he only said that the "head coach, the OC and the DC will be experts". That's all I was pointing out.

As for coaching on the sidelines and not from above---that's the reason for headsets and coaches in the booth.

You see, here's the problem with excellent coordinators becoming head coaches. The best guy for making the calls is no longer making them.

To me, if Horton doesn't make the calls, I would just as soon gamble that he doesn't get a HC gig in order to keep him doing what he does best.

Everyone is saying---but we don't want to lose Horton...but then again we lose his gift for calling defensive plays if he becomes a HC who delegates.

Lastly, consider this---no one knows yet what Horton's choices are for OC and DC---but it's quite possible that they would be two coaches who have never called a play in an NFL game. I could fathom one hot prospect coordinator---but what are the odds that two rookie coordinators could get the job done versus the established coordinators in the NFC West?

Mitch I think it was you that some time ago thought a college coach like Chip Kelly from Oregon might be a worthy candidate for the NFL. He is very innovative to say the least. Sometimes bringing in new blood is not a bad idea rather than recycling the same old coaches year after year. Every coach had to have his first shot and usually out of college. When I watch the Oregon team I never know what to expect on offense as this guy can come up with something new again and again. It is not generally the Cards way to try new things but when we did hire a college coach out of I believe San Diego state he went on to the Hall of Fame after we fired him. He may have been the best coach we have ever had.

"He is widely regarded as one of the most innovate offensive football minds in college football." He has been named coach of the year on numerous occasions. I will be surprised if he is not picked up by some NFL team this year. At Oregon he has a 45-7 record and has several all time offensive records in his 4 years at Oregon. He sure looks like a HC for the NFL when you look at his experience and numbers. He is approximately 50 years old.

I'm all for Horton. The guy has made a huge difference since he joined the club. I'm just hesitant on his opinion of Klob being our QB. If Klob is our guy, then lets do everything we can to build up this OL. You protect the QB with a stout line, we'll be a more sought after locale for QBs looking for a change, RBs as well. Protection and running holes will allow AZ to flourish. What WR wants to be on a team where they don't have time to throw to them? What RB wants to be on a team where his numbers will look awful without holes to run free? What QB wants to play where, when doing so, could end his career prematurely?

I'm all for going after Geno Smith, and OL the rest of the draft. If he's not available, we go all line until the late rounds. I just hope Horton sees that our Offense needs to be addressed in this draft.

Here are my issues, however.

1. If Horton said he would continue to call the defensive plays---I would be ecstatic---I don't want anyone else calling those plays when he is in the building.

I get the whole "delegate" thing---

But---we would have a better chance of winning with Horton calling the defensive plays---there is no doubt in my mind.

In the NFC West we need Ray Horton to call the defense. Period.

Not Louie Cioffi or anyone else.

I really don't see Horton turning over play calling to his DC as a problem. That is why his having an on-field coach, (Paris Lenin) is so important to Horton.

Horton will still be on the sidelines to make adjustments in strategy when needed, and this can be done through his DC. I have complete faith in him picking a DC who can do the job. Delegating to a DC should not diminish what Horton brings to the defense, (or to the offense). Horton's intense passion to become the best that one can be at his trade, will carry on down to the guy who holds the ball for the kicker in my estimation.

I believe that Horton is totally ready for this move to HC. He has prepared his whole life for this moment, and while there will almost certainly be failures along the way, those failures will be few and far between. Most importantly, they will be corrected quickly, because he is always thinking on the run, and will be able to do so from the sideline as surely as he did from the booth. His real forte will be bringing like-minded people into the offense to infuse it with the same passion and confidence that his defensive players have learned from him.

We need to sign another vet starter. Alex Smith would be my first choice. Then draft a QBoF who can learn for two yrs.

But no more late round OL. We have enough of them. Later round RB;s yes. OL - :pullhair:

Get the talent in.
