Excellent movie!

All the way around!

The acting in this is just great all the way around. Sean Penn puts out an oscar worthy performance! Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins and Laurence Fishburn were there typical solid selfs!

The plot in this movie is very good and although now that I look back and can see that the signs were there to figure out who did it, it still kept me guessing till the end!

Highly Recommend it! Anyone else seen this yet?

Just went and saw this on Saturday night.

Really good performances. I think that's what drove the movie. The plot itself was a little underdeveloped I thought. I felt if they would've gone more into the characters and less into the police work it would have been better but it still was good.

Did anyone else think the movie could've done without the parade sequence at the end? I think ending the movie in the scene previous to that would have been much better but oh well. Still a good movie.

The Parade sequence was weird, but not as weird as his wife telling him he was going to rule this town...that part of the movie baffled me...just seemed out of place.

You didn't hear from her the whole movie, then at the end she turns out to be some control freak.

I agree with pretty much every opinion.

The acting was stellar, possibly the best I've seen all year. I also thought the parade scene wasn't very good, although it really was tragic when Marcia Gay Harden called her son's name on the float.

Personally, I think the best performance of the movie was Tim Robbins, but that's just me--I thought along with Sean Penn and Marcia Gay Harden, that was 3 actors that should get nominated this year.

The most unlikable characters: The brothers and Laurence Fishburne. Definitely.

And I absolutely knew who the killer really was about 45 minutes into the movie. It was pretty easy to figure out.

Just saw it - the performances were solid all the way around - agree that they didn't need the last 7 minutes or so - and I agree with Chap that it was obvious who the killer before the movie was even half over - that being said - I still wanted to see how it was going to play out - how each character was going to deal with their loss which is what I thought the movie was really about - rather than it being a who-dunnit.

I just talked to a buddy of mine who read the book and he told me what the differences were. Thought you guys might want to know.

The reason the "cops" stopped at the beginning was because Sean Penn's character and Tim Robbin's character got in a fight. As a result, Sean Penn's character always felt extremely guilty about what happened and he and Tim Robbin's character always had a touchy relationship. This made it a little more personal when he was the chief suspect in killing the daughter.

Nice touch, and I'm not sure why they changed it for the movie. I think this puts a lot more motivation into the characters and a more complicated backstory as well. Adaptations are tricky, I guess.

Just saw this over the weekend. I also "figured" out who the killer was very early on. To me, it was too obvious.

I think Penn did alright, but I thought he did a much better job in "21 Grams".

I think Tim Robbins was phenomenal. He stole every scene he was in, IMO.

I agree about the parade scene at the end. My wife & I discussed the scene and Penn's wife telling him he can rule the city.

What we gathered was that the wife was alwats a little jealous of the older daughter (she stated earlier in the movie something about remember that he has 2 other daughter too) and that now they can put that "chapter" of their life behind them and get on with the "new" family.

saw this flick when it first came out - i liked it quite a bit. i thought Tim Robbins was excellent in it - great acting - totally out-acted everyone in it.
