Najeh Davenport was let go by Pitt. Considering the drafted Mendenhall this was seen coming.

I want this guy. Solid pounder, solid reciever, pretty nimble feet and has actually returned kickoffs in all 6 of his years in the NFL, and he plays special teams. Better version of Shipp at their points in their career.

Would be a very solid veteran addition for a cheaper price then Shipps bloated contract.

He's a tough runner, would be good for blocking as well as picking up short yardage first downs. I think he would help us tremendously.

We got our version of Davenport when we drafted Hightower.

But...it wouldn't surprise me if Whiz brought him in anyway. The Steeler pipeline still flowin'!

How does a 215 pound, 5th round small school prospect who hasnt even put pads on yet = a 250 pound already tested runner, reciever, returner, special teamer?

Hightower is a power runner, who will get bigger each year in John Lott's program. Davenport wasn't 250 when he entered the league.

The Cards need a speed back to compliment Edge, Shipp and Hightower...hopefully J.J. is the answer...if not...???

Where did everyone come up with the notion that we have to have a speed back? I'll take shifty over fast any day. Plenty of teams have won with multiple power backs who team up to wear a defense down. The truth is Davenport would be a better backup than Shipp or Arrington (big, small, three legged or otherwise). Give me talent and production over 0.15 of a second on their 40 yard dash.

I'd like to have him because he's better than Shipp (since Marcel's injury) and better than JJ Arrington.

His upside is not relevant. We need help now.

Is N Davenport better than T Henry? I don't think so. Edge will be the #1 RB. I think Hightower and ? will be an adequate #2.

How do we need a compliment to Shipp when Shipp isnt even a compliment to any RB at all. Shipp is a pure special teamer and brings no running back help to the table IMO. Highttower is a 5th round untested rookie.

Davenport weighed in at 248 pounds at the combine.

How much bigger do you expect a 6-0 RB to get in Lotts system. He was 225 at his prodays and was asked to lose a little weight and he did because he wasnt as fast at 225 as he is at his current 215. Cards are looking for him to be an everydown back, not a primary pounder.

But he is half the flake Henry is. Henry is one hot pee-pee test away from a year's suspension. He also returns kicks (bye-bye J.J.). It would be a good signing that we would see dividends from by the end of the year.

Davenport is a better option than Shipp & Arrington. The only problem with Davenport is that he is fragile. Other than that, bring him in. It can't hurt.

Our best options are:
1) a guy who has a problem coming up with good revenge ideas.
2) a guy who could get every other girl in the valley pregnant.

Awesome.

Wasn't Davenport the player that Peter King said would breakout as soon as he got his shot? So much for that. Still, depth is good, and both are competent running backs, even if their personal lives are full of... issues.
A suspension for Henry isn't a huge deal, he's not a primary back.
I do think Davenport is the more intriguing of the two runners for a backup.
