So, Nash in an interview tonight stated he wants to finish his career with the Suns. He said he is old school and doesn't want to move around and wants to be a Sun. He wants to take another crack at taking the team some place.

He did say that if the team wants to trade him he has to be prepared but it doesn't sound like it will be at his request. He said he plans on playing 2 more years after next year. He says he hopes its here.

He mentioned that the team lacked chemistry and cohesion. He said there are definitely holes in the roster that have to be filled and that he felt the team was too top heavy in some positions and needs help in others.

He said it was also disappointing that the bench lacked the same play as the previous season and that forced him to play alot more minutes which he felt contributed to his health issues. He also admitted to not being healthy at all the 2nd half of the season. He seemed to indicate he had a "few" things wrong with him, they were all related but he did not elaborate. He said he would be healthy by next season and planned on working hard during the off season.

That was more or less the summary of the interview.

So....this will be interesting to see what the Suns do. Do they honor a Hall of Famer's wishes and try to make it work and give it one last try over the next 3? Does the team say it's time and move him? Do they let him play out his contract and let him be the one to leave the team so the team isn't the bad guy?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

2 more years after this?? That is going to set back the future of the Suns. I agree, its because of Tragic he was so worn out. If Brooks is history then we need to draft a good PG who we can be sure of. Maybe Nolan Smith?

Brooks is as inconsistent as Dragic & plays worse defense. I know he had an ankle injury at the beginning of the season, but it really shouldn't be affecting his game still. That trade would've been bad if it was a straight up deal without the draft pick... especially since Brooks was complaining in houston & they were desperate to dump him.

uh... Nash, I love ya and all, but I will end up hating you if this puts off it's future for three more years or coming in 8, 9 or 10th in the west.

if he really plans to play 3 more years, this team should move his ass without question, against his wishes or not.

The last interview I heard from Brooks on this subject (about a month ago), he said his ankle hadn't healed and would not heal until he could get off it during the summer.

I don't want to trade him this offseason. I want to jump in the time machine and ship him out last summer. I'd like to spend about 20 minutes in a locked room with the idiot that thought it was a good idea to keep Nash AFTER letting Amare walk for nothing. Violence would not ensue but I could at least enjoy laughing in the guy's face.

Please trade Steve.

If they're not gonna trade Nash, then Nash better speak up and demand that he wants good players in PHX.

Everyone talks about how Nash is a great leader, great franchise guy etc but there's a deiffernce between him and guys like Kobe, Wade etc. Kobe in 06 demanded that LA get better players or trade him. Lakers traded for Gasol and now their sitting with 3 straight Finals appearances since that trade including 2 championships. Wade got Miami to trade for Shaq and then won a title. LeBron demanded the Cleveland FO to improve the team, they traded for Shaq & Jamison. Of course those 2 players aren't a great "improvement" so LeBron showed em the middle finger and left.

Nash is too nice a guy to win a chamionship IMO. He never speaks up. He goes with whatever the organization does. Has anyone ever heardhim say a single bad thing about the players or the FO?

You guys should read this article as it really opened my eyes.

You will end up hating him because he doesn't demand a trade? He has every right to not want to play elsewhere. It's up to the management to decide what's best for the team in the long run.

Personally, I have zero respect for players who start demanding trades or demand that teams make certain moves or else. You sign a contract, you honor it. If the team wants to go another direction, it's always their option.

So now it's a bad thing when a player doesn't openly criticize his teammates or management in the media? Wow.

This is good news. Steve just increased his trade value in three ways.

He is not planning on retirimg soon
He acknowledged injury and confidence on improving with healing and of in a situation where he could play less minutes.
He is not demanding a trade whixh always decreases value

I will end up hating him because he'll end up eating our cap space and keep us running in place. I'll also end up hating him because he'll be holding the team hostage, thinking that he can still be the man... when clearly, those days have passed.

and it rubs me the wrong way when a player takes it in the butt over and over again from his owner and never says a word.

Cool by me. :) I like our starters, could use some more power though. Nash is better (even at his age) than anybody we can bring in next year. We get much more out of keeping him, no one's going to give up future talent for Nash, he's only got a couple years left in him. I hope all of this sticks and Hill comes back too. LA and the Spurs might be beneath us next year with Phil leaving, and Duncan and Ginobli going down fast.

Gortat and Nash gotta special thing going on...and it opens up the rest of our game. Instead of trying to get rid of Nash, let's get the couple players we need to make another run. Nash going out as a champ on top as a Sun. Gentry said Sarver is willing to pay for talent this off season, we only need a couple players.

Side note from the game against the Spurs: LOLopez did a great job against their back up center, and Gortat dominated Duncan even when he was bricking shots. We did lose some lead everytime Pop snuck Duncan in there before we could get Lopez out. Just like Nash's minutes, all of this will be key next year, minutes and player match ups. If Gentry can get some consistent production from his bench while starting his best, we could easily be 3-4 seed.

I can understand his point of view. Nash likes Phoneix, likes the organisation, and wants to make it better. But I'm afraid it's a big difference between having and wanting. The team we have right now, as Nash said, can indeed improve... But not enough.

I would like to draw a comparison with Kidd, who is 40 years old but can still play, however, Kidd is not the centre point of Dallas. Nash shouldn't be the number one star, he should be feeding the stars number one and two, but there are no players like that right now here.

2 key players we need right now are a PF that could take the load off Gortat's back (primarily on defense), and a wing that could score consistently. If by some magical intervention PHX happens to land those two players, then it makes sense for Nash to stay. Otherwise, it's just not smart.

Yes let me steal someone's summary from the press conference from another site

..

1. Acquire a star wing player and defensive minded PF who commands a double team.
2. Do this without giving up any of the team's best or most desirable players.
3. Get younger.
4. Do this without trading any of the older players on the team.
5. Makes moves that will dramatically improve the team while not adding too much salary because of the CBA uncertainty.

Essentially - trade Childress, Warrick, Pietrus and Lopez for young superstars at PF and SG who are on rookie contracts.

Brilliant!

I am not sure these players even exist. DeMar DeRozan, James Harden, Blake Griffin, DeMarcus Cousins may be the closest to what they described.

And then you could probably add to that not only young superstars at PF and SG they also must pass the character test because apparently the Suns are not going to take any player with difficult character like Beasley or Randolph, so Cousins wouln't even do it for them probably.

Well, the moving parts here are that Nash wants to retire a Sun, AND he wants to play three more years including next year, the final on his contract. Which does he want more?

The only real trade scenario I see is the Raptors if they think they are losing Calderon and want a fan favorite at PG while they search for the next step. It would actually be a similar situation for Toronto as Phoenix: a lot of casual fans would be into it, and the fans who don't want to waste a year or two will be upset.

What press conference are you referring to? This interview was not a press conference. This was a radio interview. Nothing was stolen from anywhere or are you saying you stole what you posted?

As usual....huh?!?!!?!?

I took that quote from a poster on phxsuns.net but it's pretty much what I posted here before as well I just thought that poster hit the nail on the head with his summary of Babby's presser.

OK, gotcha.

So with the #1 - how do you get your hands on a defensive minded PF that will command double teams (meaning dude can put up points) and do it without giving back something in return (see #2). Those conflict unless you get lucky in the draft or can take advantage of another team. Does anybody see a non-restricted free agent that fits that bill??

#3 - You can get younger simply by hanging on to your draft picks. You can't simply build through the draft and still need Vets in the mix or your team will languish in the lottery for too long.

#4 - I simply don't get unless they are specifically referring to Nash and want to make another run with him. Should anybody really be off limits if you can get a legit super star? If your talking getting role players than I get that but then his statement is...duh!

#5 is straight up impossible in my mind. You can't use the word "dramatically improve" and not want to add salary. When is the last time you have seen a really "cheap" good team in the NBA?

This kind of talk is exactly why I hate our owner and front office. It gives me zero confidence the know what they are doing. That's what you get when you have business guys versus NBA guys running the front office.
