Nash isn't what's keeping them from missing the playoffs 3 out of 4 times. Front Office stupidity and inability to put a good cast around Nash is why they're on the path they are on. There's no excuse for why the bench is so bad. Don't the Suns starters have one of the top in the +/- stat in the league?

Anyway, Nash is passing as well as he's ever passed and shooting as well as he's ever shot and amazingly I've never seen him better on defense. I say definitely sign him for as long as he wants to be here.

Agreed.

He is what keeps the Suns from acquiring real talent in the draft.

And it is naive to expect him to have 3 more seasons like that when any medium injury this late in his career could mean it is over.

The ship sailed years ago when they failed to get value in return for Shaq and Amare and sold all those picks. That is keeping us from being a playoff team and the free agent possibilities won't make up for that.

Yeah, but he's not what's keeping the Suns from being like they were in 2010. They don't need the draft to have a great bench. They had a great bench and they destroyed it for no reason. They already have a playoff caliber starting five. Not championship caliber of course, but I think we'd be closer if we tweak it for the next 3 years rather than if we get rid of our best player and tank. The Kings have been tanking for 10 years. It's not like you tank one season and then immediately in the season you're guaranteed to be in the title hunt.

And it is naive to expect him to have 3 more seasons like that when any medium injury this late in his career could mean it is over.

When is the last time he's been injured? I'm willing to take that chance.

It's time to stop blaming Nash and put the blame where it really belongs... The FO. Nash is NOT the problem.

And the Rockets have been mediocre for 15 years.

It's not like you keep your players around and stay in no-mans land and suddenly you get over the hill again.

Try to name some teams that did not hit rock-bottom before being relevant again.

The Spurs got Duncan at #1 to become what they are.
The Rockets got Yao at #1 for their short run of being somewhat relevant again.
The Cavs got Lebron at #1 to get relevant.
The Heat got Wade to get relevant.
The Mavs got Dirk.
The Blazers got Roy/Aldridge.
The Clippers got Griffin at #1
The Bulls got Rose at #1
The Magic got Howard at #1
The Thunder got Westbrook and Durant in the top 5.

we can continue this list a lot and you will find almost no team that got relevant again without hitting rock bottom before..

This Suns team needs a hell lot more than a decent bench to be relevant again no matter what +/- numers for entire lineups suggest. You can't really compare the lineups because substitution patterns and way mroe factors effect that statistic.
The Suns starting 5 is not playoff caliber and next year Grant Hill might have retired and Nash another year older.

And what about the Suns in 2010? They were a cinderella team and had another allstar on the team that also happend to be one of the best scorers in the NBA.
You take a cinderella team but the hard fact is that the Suns will miss the playoffs for the third time in 4 years.

Exactly. Anyone buying into the Sarver/FO bs is delusional. The Suns are old, boring, unathletic, unsuccessful and hopeless. Hell, even a Bobcats or Wiz will pick up a Davis or Kidd Gilchrist and be far more exciting than us.

With or without Nash, the Suns are a dumpster fire, and have been for awhile. (Although I'd say a dumpster fire is far more exciting)

The Mavs last year. If you were a Mavs fan, you would have said blow it up after the first round exit to Golden State and all the other first round exits. You would have said that since they were noncontenders for so many years that means they would never get it done. Sometimes it is like you keep your players around and suddenly you get over the hill.

And I'd rather be the Rockets of the past 10 years than the Kings of the past 10 years.

Because of mismanagement. Not Nash though.

The Mavs? Lol

They were never in no-mans land with Dirk Nowitzki. We are in no-mans land for the third time in four years already.

And I'd rather be the Kings of the last 15 years than the Rockets in the last 15 years..

Btw even in the last 10 years the Kings won 2 playoff series, the Rockets won 1 and that was with Yao Ming so they had hit rock bottom before that.

And what the heck does it matter whether we are where we are because of Nash or mismanagement? It does not change anything and keeping Nash around for 3 more years instead of rebuilding will be th logical consequence of even more mismanagement.

Gee, who would sign the LEAGUE LEADER IN ASSISTS, to a 3 year contract?

Hmm.....

I am gonna go on a limb and assume that Portland will have A LOT of interest....Orlando would be 2nd in line.....Atlanta can use an upgrade over Teague..Indiana definitely has the money and players to make it work....If Deron Williams stays with the Nets, then the Mavs become a real possibility....NY would also be in consideration...

Just missing the playoffs or making the playoffs with no chance to advance past the first round. There's no difference between two. Yes, the Mavs were certainly in a horrible place for years and made it back to the top without blowing up their team and tanking.

Btw even in the last 10 years the Kings won 2 playoff series, the Rockets won 1 and that was with Yao Ming so they had hit rock bottom before that.

You were the one that brought up the Rockets as an example of a mediocre team refusing to rebuild. I'm simply saying that pales in comparison to the misery of teams that are constantly tanking. Kings made it to the WCF and have been irrelevant ever since while the Rockets have been entertaining their fans. Now they're without Yao Ming and they're still in a better place than the Kings.

And what the heck does it matter whether we are where we are because of Nash or mismanagement? It does not change anything and keeping Nash around for 3 more years instead of rebuilding will be th logical consequence of even more mismanagement.

It matters because keeping Nash is not the problem. It was never the problem. Nash is as good as he ever was. Therefore it would be dumb not to offer him a 3 year contract.

Since season midpoint:
Nash-Brown-Dudley-Frye-Gortat -- Off Rtg: 129.5 -- Overall Rtg: +29.5

2009-2010 starters (the team that went to the WCFs):
Nash-JRich-Hill-Amar'e-Lopez -- Off Rtg: 115.15 -- Overall Rtg: +4.3

Celtics, Lakers, Pistons. Now I know you'll try to discount these because they are the Lakers and Celtics (they should somehow be in a different category). But the Pistons also have a championship without high draft picks (The Prince, Sheed team). BTW, Dallas was not at rock bottom when they got Dirk. He was the 9th pick. I love how you use the term relevant. It can conveniently mean whatever you want it to mean.

They were 20-62 the season before he got there.

he's NOT the problem, but sadly, he's not the solution anymore either. Sorry guys, but when you're best player averages 12.7 ppg and 11 assists, your team sucks and it doesn't have someone to build around.

subtle difference, Dirk was still capable of taking over games AND that team was STILL making the playoffs... even as high seeds. We're not even making the playoffs, thus we can't in any way shape or form be compared to a team that was continually a top 4 seed.

are you kidding? the idea that a team who's so talentless that they don't even make the playoffs for 3 straight years (which is what Nash teams have done the last years without Amare) is no different from a team that continually gets a top 4 seed and chokes in the playoffs, but is only one piece away from being a complete team (Chandler) strains credulity, to be kind. Are you saying that this Suns team is one Tyson Chandler like piece from being a legit title contender?

the Lakers were able to build around the best player in the game in the prime of his career. The Celtics DID hit rock bottom and used the picks (#5 pick)/players (Al Jefferson who they got with a lotto pick) to turn their team around using those assets gotten by being rock bottom to get Ray Allen and KG. and the Pistons are pretty much the anomaly to every title team constructed in the last two decades.

Nash has led the league in assists for the last 3 years. Guy has shown NO SIGNS of slowing down. Why the hell wouldn't anyone offer him a 3 year deal if he looks like he's gonna be playing for another 3 years?

If a person who doesn't know who Steve Nash is was to watch a Suns game and saw Nash playing, I bet they would think that Nash is 26 or 27.

so... then their missing nothing?

so you seriously not get what point I'm making? all the Mavs did was add their tyson chandler piece. We need to add TWO SUPERSTARS. You can't do that because a) there aren't two superstars available on the FA market b) we don't have an asset to trade for one and c) Nash's new contract would keep us from getting two superstars.

seriously... how do you nto get this?

Ughh bro that post you quoted was the first post I made on the Mavs topic. I think you have me mistaken for someone else...

But just out curiosity, who was the Mavs 2nd superstar?

And I think they won the title cause they have a coaching staff and players at EVERY position who preach and play excellent defense. The 40 year old Jason Kidd was guarding DWAYNE WADE and doing a good job. The 34 year old Marion was guarding LeBron and COMPLETELY shutting him down. Even Dirk did a decent job defensively on Bosh but of course he got help.

Then on top of all that the Mavs had a VERY VERY reliable bench. There's no way they even get to the Finals without Terry and Barea.

Mavs had more than just "superstardom."

Deron Williams?

And I stand by my belief that Eric Gordon, if given the right opportunity (which I think is here playing with Nash in PHX) will be a superstar once he's in his prime.

great... a superstar... playing the same position as Nash. That helps a lot.

dude can't stay healthy and is a tweener. He's Ben Gordon. A good player, but he's nowhere near got superstar talent.
