I mean, it's probably an overpay but if you're getting an NBA 3rd / 4th teamer then it's probably not.

Dragic just got 5 years 90 million from the Heat per Woj.

That is nuts.

Wonder what Knight is going to do. Does he back out of the "rumored" deal and demand more money? (If said rumor was even true.)

DeMarre Carroll, Robin Lopez, Ed Davis and Jordon Hill seem like reasonable options for the Suns as URFAs.

No one really knows if that's an overpay until we see him play with a p'n'r specialist ie Bosh, then we'll see how much of a boneheaded move letting go of Frye was / if the 'dragic year' was a fluke or not.

Suns didn't let Frye go? He signed a huge deal with Orlando. If we had matched that deal we wouldn't even be talking about free agents this year.

I would like to take a look at David West and possibility trade for David Lee, as GSW will be looking to dump him.

I see what you are saying, but unless Dragic can turn into Steve Nash or John Stockton in their prime, this IS an overpayment. If Bosh and McRoberts are healthy and get lots of open shots from Dragic, Dragic goes back to averaging 40%+ from the three, and the Heat replacing Wade with a running, shooting guard, Dragic's isn't going to make that big of an improvement to justify that kind of money. If I were Miami, I'd go after Gerald Green and a couple of other shooters and forget about Wade. Dragic needs shooters and runners around him. Wade is neither.

Miami backed themselves into a corner though- they gave up a lot for Dragic, and they just couldn't let him go. It cost them Wade thought, I imagine.

I would LOVE to have David West on the roster. He is exactly the type of a player we need around our youngsters.

I'm hearing West will sign with the Knicks but David Lee seems to be an available target in a trade.

Sorry, should have said bad luck for us that there was no way we could have matched frye at $8m - or maybe we should have; advanced stats showed how reliant dragic was on frye so if we thought dragic was the guy to take us forward then maybe $8m was worth it.

Probably not though considering how bad he's been subsequently, so maybe we're lucky to be rid of the both of them at their respective prices.

He had 1 good season. He is not a regular all NBA team member. He's 30 years old. His one good year he was the first option on a team that had a losing record when he was in that role. There is zero doubt that this is an awful contract. It's right there with NY giving Amare that deal. I do love it though as he, Wade, and Bosh will be at the end of their deals when the Suns are due their unprotected picks.

These are my thoughts.

The Suns are paying Leuer, like 1 million for a potential Frye replacement.

Just like I said months ago, he got less than the max despite people thinking it will take the max to keep him.
I am a huge Dragic fan, but that is INSANE. He is at best the third option on a contending team, and $18M per year is way too much for that.

I wouldn't want us paying him this much but honestly, it's not an overpay considering what other players will be making this summer and next summer. Just wait and see at all the other ridiculous contracts that will be given out soon.

Being reported on the Heat radio station that Dragic took $20M less (max) to help Miami sign other guys. I wonder if that includes Wade....

What a joke! Thank you for being a prima donna Dragic! You saved the Suns from themselves AND fetched them some good looking draft picks as the cherry on top! Couldn't have worked out better!

The last two times the Suns cleared enough cap space to sign two max contracts they walked away with none those off seasons. I believe one was the year we pursued Kobe and the other when we like every other team tried to pursue Le-Bron (if memory serves me correctly).

With Milsap worth ~$20mil per season and Dragic $18mil, the $14 mil we're paying Bledsoe and eventually Knight sounds like a bargain.

Wow. Just wow. We are definitely getting a bargain after some of these deals. I was a Dragic fan but $18 million per?

No team was going to pay Dragic the maximum.

I like the fact that Lee could provide the rebounding we need and is an expiring contract but I would hate to help GS unless they are willing to take Markieff.

At this point, with Millsap looking like he is going to land some place else, I am all for Hill, Davis, Lopez or Amare who has some range with his jump shot.

But, PHX is going to have to settle for second & third tier FA'S unless they can pull off a trade.

So...business as usual. I really hope the Suns can sneak in there and get an impact guy somewhere.

The last two times the Suns cleared enough cap space to sign two max contracts they walked away with none. I would consider those major FA signing periods.

I don't recall you saying anything about major FA signing periods, you said "Suns anticipated making a huge splash and didn't". I don't recall a time since they went after Nash that the Suns anticipated making a major signing. In fact, I don't think even Nash was considered major at the time. He wasn't a max guy at least. Who exactly did the Suns anticipate getting that they didn't? Just because they swung for a the fences on a few doesn't mean they believed they'd get them, they just did what they should do, took a shot. How many major free agents have switched teams? Not many and not many teams get them, but they have to take a chance. IMO you made another claim based on your perception and don't see it as a big deal apparently. Just like arguing that calling something a fact that isn't is not a big deal. I guess I and perhaps others disagree. Maybe that's why I have no interest in made up rumors and conjecture? Opinions are fine, but they should have substance behind them or they have no worth.

Wow. Just wow. We are definitely getting a bargain after some of these deals. I was a Dragic fan but $18 million per?

We can surely agree on this.

It was Kobe and Tmac, It was 2003 and they ended up with a great team on paper.

Let them have Marcus or Tucker.

I think the Suns can absorb the rest of Lee's salary.

Throw in a second round pick or the Cavaliers pick if you want to play nice.

The other year was 2010-11, but the issues was the looming lockout season and no team was going to sign a non star to a long term deal.
