As the NBA trade deadline approaches on February 7th 2020 there will be lots of trades and rumors.

Thought it might be fun to have a thread to talk about it.

The Jazz already got the ball moving when they traded for Jordan Clarkson.

KAT would take Ayton and some unprotected 1's.

Really ballsy, but balls is probably the only way to get us out of this franchise quagmire.

I would pull it, Suns land Russell after Tyler Johson clears as well, Kat, Oubre Baynes, Russell Booker, that be a solid squad

How about Ayton, Tyler Johnson, Kaminsky and two 1's (this year's top 10 protected and a future unprotected) for Towns and Bell?

We would need Tyler Johnson as salary filler in the Ayton for Towns swap.

Pull the trigger on KAT, the only teams that are relevant in this leagues are those that either get lucky and draft a top 5-10 player or those that are aggressive and go out and get one , and since we all know how much the sun's suck at drafting that only leaves one choice

It’s Minnesota that’s holding the gun. They won’t deal him unless he makes it ugly publicly. That’s the way it’s always been...

Really it's KAT holding it, it all rides on him wanting to leave or not and my money is on him saying he wants to get traded

KAT has very little leverage. Jimmy Butler wanted out and they played hardball with him before finally making a deal to send him to Philly. They held out long enough that they got a decent return on the Butler deal. They can tell KAT to sit back and shut up because they have him for 4 1/2 more years.

They have some pieces they can move to try to make him happy, which is more likely what would happen if he's really unhappy and wants out. Wiggins isn't the negative asset he was last year and they have a large expiring in Teague as well.

I think they'll try to make a move to please him before they give in and listen to his trade demands. It's a similar situation the Suns would be in if Booker asked out, there is just too much time left on his contract to be making demands.

Players used to love playing in Phoenix. Great weather. Lots of upscale big city perks. Honest ownership respectful of players.

You've got to be a first class tool to screw that up.

Who wants to live in Minnesota? During the WINTER?

Hopefully with the hiring of Monty and having young stars like Booker and Oubre, Phoenix can be an attractive place to play again. Also if there is a chance to get KAT you have to do it...

Phoenix is a great city for NBAers. They get to live here during the winter and get out of Dodge during the summer. Its perfect.

Robert Covington is on the trade block, some are saying. He would be an interesting low-key add. He is a very good defender and he blocks a few shots.

Kaminsky and Jerome or Carter etc might be interesting.

As far as trying to find an Ibaka type player at pf, Covington might be it. He defends well, he has blocked as many as 1.9 pg for a season. And typically he shoots in the high 30's from three (although his shooting percentage is down a little this year).

I would do Jerome and Kaminsky for Covington. I'd include Okobo as well. I'd like to keep Carter though because a lineup with Carter, Bridges, Oubre, Covington, and Baynes would be able to lock teams down. You could even replace Oubre with Diallo if it's a bigger lineup but that lineup couldn't play for very long unless Carter or Baynes is hot. Oubre's reason for being out there is more for his scoring than his defense but he can be a good defender for stretches. He's the only one of our "Big 3" that could keep up with the others defensively also.

I don't really see how we would need Covington. I don't think he can play PF, and we already have 3 young SF's who need minutes.

Some rumors have the Lakers trading Kyle Kuzma for Robert Covington. That would be hard to beat.

He's been playing PF almost all season in Minnesota. Wiggins has been their SF and Culver their SG. He is only 6'7" but he's long and a really good defender.

19.2 mil is a thing for Tyler Johnson??!! :thud:

It's a lot for sure.

The Suns had to know Tyler would pick up his player option thus he has been viewed as a chip to make trades work.

That’s the new barefoot number. He was 6-9, 225 a year ago. He is considered a pf and he plays like one. Plays bigger and stronger than those numbers indicate.
