According to team officials and NBA general managers -- all of whom require anonymity because they cannot reveal Thorn's intentions -- the most promising discussions the Nets have had are with teams that were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Among them: They have made some cursory inquiries with Phoenix (about Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa), more substantive discussions with Toronto (about Andrea Bargnani), and there has been some dialogue with Denver about Carmelo Anthony. Newark Star-Ledger

Hmmmmmm. Wonder what or who we could get for them that would help us with depth without losing too much offensive efficiency?

Barbosa, Diaw, and #15 to NJ
Diop (S&T), Marcus Williams, Van Horn, Nachbar (S&T) and NJ 08 Pick to Phoenix?

I know we probably can't get Jefferson especially if they are looking at him being the main piece in enticing Denver to let go of Melo. And I don't want to send Barbosa and Diaw for Jefferson either.

If they would part with Devin Harris then I'm all ears.

I wonder if this means we actually will be trading LB and Diaw during the off-season or if it's just New Jersey that's showing interest in them.

From what it sounds like the Suns would like to try one or both.

Suns are not into salary dump mode yet. Geez!

The only thing I might consider is Diaw/LB for Jefferson/Williams and a future pick.

If that's the case, this would make it the second time Robert Sarver has said he wanted to keep the core intact and not lived up to his word.

The initial rumor was LB and Diaw going to the Knicks. Interesting.

Not really. The good thing about being an owner saying you want to keep 'the core' in tact, is that its a meaningless sentence. Who's in the core? Who's not? Its all subjective and if you asked 10 different people you'd likely get 10 different answers.

As far as moving Diaw and LB, there's really not a lot NJ has to offer that they'd realistically want to part with. I think LB should be held onto, he's a great player relative to his contract. I'd be fine with moving Diaw, but due to his contract, its near impossible. Just for fun go to ESPNs trade machine and try to trade Diaw (and not LB) to NJ, I fiddled with it for 10 minutes or so and wasn't able to get any successful trades, the Suns are probably stuck with him.

The problem is that all the trade machines are looking at this year and BYC's of Barbosa & Diaw - until the playoffs are over the trade machine is kind of worthless.

Wonder if this is a three way with Denver, Phoenix, and New Jersey? I don't see anything with NJ that the suns would want. However add denver players and maybe we have something to talk about.

And once again, the Sarver haters turn something completely around in order to try to make Sarver look bad.

There is nothing in the original post that says that the Suns are shopping Diaw and Barbosa. They were contacted by New Jersey, not vice versa.

I don't think these guys are being shopped, but that does not mean the Suns are not listening. But IMHO, the only obvious deals would be for a serious point guard.

Harris is intesting, but seemed to be too much of a combo to meet the Suns needs, but who knows?

Id be willing to dump Diaw for a first round lottery pick. He isn't going to win us a ring with his girly man play.

First off, the article said nothing about the Suns shopping anyone on the team. Secondly, outside of #10 pick/Jefferson/Harris/Sean Williams and maybe Josh Boone, NJ doesn't have much left for a trade.

Let me try to explain my theory of the trade I proposed.

#1. A lot of people on this board would like to see Diop here. Outside of bidding for him in free agency, the only way to get him here would be S&T. He would be great defensively and on the boards behind Shaq, plus he can shoot.
#2. Nachbar is another guy that would have to be S&T (since he's a free agent). He's another athletic wing that can defend and he can shoot the 3 and would be great on the wing getting wide open passes from Nash.
#3. Marcus Williams, although not a great PG, he's a better distributer than Barbosa and almost as quick. He's give us another year (if needed or wanted) to look for Nash's replacement.
#4. VanHorn, the only thing to say about him is cap relief.
#5. The lottery pick to grab Westbrook

If we could get those pieces I would be happy with the added depth. We'd get 4 for 3 extending our bench depth.

Albeit if we could get say Harris and one of Boone/Sean Williams for Diaw, Barbosa and #15, or Jefferson and Boone/Sean Williams for Barbosa, Diaw and #15. Do I think either of those could happen, honestly No. Hell, maybe we can trade just Barbs for #10 pick and filler I'd do that too. That would give us #10 and #15 to go after Westbrook and a big like McGee or Thompson or an athletic wing in Alexander or Greene.

I wasn't referring to the article regarding the Suns shopping Barbosa/Diaw - however judging Kerr's comments and their performances in the playoffs, they seem like the likely targets for a trade.

I'm doubtful that Diaw will get traded this summer. It's just a replay of the Marion situation of previous years - it is very hard to get value for an overpaid player.

Barbosa is a more likely trade piece because he's not all that overpaid. But unless he generates a PG, I'm not sure the Suns can afford to lose what he offers.

You absolutely do not trade Barbosa without sending Diaw as well. Barbosa is your only bargaining chip to get rid of Diaw. If you trade Barbosa without Diaw, we will be stuck with Diaw for the duration of his contract.

I would love to keep Barbs and continue to bring him off the bench. However, if that is the only thing we can do to get rid of Diaw...I am for trading Barbs.

Diaw is overpaid, but he is still a good player worth the MLE. So, he is "only" about 2.5 mil per overpaid. It's not worth giving away picks or other value to just get rid of him like we did with JR and KT last year.

I was just about to post the same thing. Barbosa has one of the best contracts in the NBA, he is under paid, Trading hi straight up you could not get fair value, thats why it would be Diaw and Barbs packaged together, I would love to see Diaw go, It would not be hard for him to pack since he does not seem to own many shirts!!

I don't agree that Diaw is worth much at all. When he shows up to play it's one thing but much like JJ doesn't always do it. So he is not worth that much IMO. Kurt was different story because he had value. The Suns just decided he was too expensive.

I am OK with using something valuable to get rid of dead weight.
