Everyone and their mama will be watching this game. I see Oregon getting out ahead early and then the Cam show. I think this forum will sway heavily (more so) in favor of picking Newton at #5, I just hope he is still there. Auburn has their own 9-0 too, watch him on defense. The Camwagon is loading up, if it gets full just jump on the roof.:)

I can't wait to see the game tonight! Like him or not, Newton is the most exciting player in all of college football.

I'm an Alabama fan and it was painful to watch Newton will his Auburn team to victory, but impressive at the same time.

I don't want Cam on my NFL team, but I'm sure excited to watch him play tonight. He's a fantastic college QB.

I don't see Oregon getting out front early. That is not their habit. They tend to start slow then really come on in the second half, just like they did against Stanford and their big QB. I think this will be one heck of a game though, and may just end up being the best College Finale in years.

Not really...I really like watching the kid. In college.

Realistically, he's an enormous risk in the NFL. Ceiling is very high...floor is more likely to be reached than the ceiling.

Depends on where his mind is. I think he has the physical tools. Tonight will be telling, as will the combine process.

I can't wait for this game. I think Oregon will win but really, who the hell knows? Auburn has never faced an offense like Oregon and I think the Ducks will wear them down late in the third, early in the fourth like they normally do. Auburn will have no trouble scoring, though Oregon's defense it better than most people want to give them credit for, while Auburn's defense is mediocre. Either way it should be a very entertaining game.

I don't think he has the physical tools of an NFL QB - one read and run isn't the NFL prototype. He also doesn't have the body of work to overcome my fears. Scoring almost as many TDs rushing as passing isn't a stat that makes me excited for NFL success at QB.

Tonight isn't going to tell me anything about Cam that I don't already know, unless he suddenly hangs back in the pocket, buys time and throws several strikes all over the field, displaying touch and timing on all the throws. I doubt that's going to be the case though. If it is, then he won't make it to us at #5 and if he does grab him in a blink.

The combine isn't going to tell me anything about Cam that I don't know. He's a sleek, strong and fast guy with a good arm and a solid throwing motion. These are known qualities.

What will tell me something is when he runs a pro offense in the NFL against pro linebackers and dbs against a professional line rushing him. I don't think his style of play will succeed there, and it's a lot of gamble to hope it does.

Cam's a sick college football player, and will have a big game. Doesn't mean he should rocket up any draft board unless he does that crazy "hang in the pocket and dissect Oregon's D" thing.

So what physical tools doesn't he have? Are you saying he runs too well to be an NFL QB?

Once again, if his mind is right, Newt should be "gut".

Totally agree... Newton has arguably taken the "best college football player EVER" title away from Tebow. He's that good...
However, he is far from showing the skills that would translate to being a stud NFL QB.
As you say, if he were to stand in the pocket, show progression thru his reads and toss strikes all over the field, then we might have something here.
Otherwise - in the end, what is really the difference between Newton and say, Vince Young?

Newton has a better throwing motion. I think.

The kid absolutely has ALL of the "PHYSICAL TOOLS" to be an NFL QB. That really can't even be debated. The question is mental.

Meh... He ran the ball something like 20 times in that game. Brady? I don't think Brady runs the ball 20 times in a season!!

;)
TB averages about 30-40 carries a year. Newt made some really awesome throws against Bama.
