Where you saw troubles, I saw numbers. The CB strategy wasn't to rely on 1 good player, 1 meh player and a bunch of fringe roster guys like we have seen in the past.
No, it was to rely one 2 decent players, a washed up injury in a uniform, and pray a 4th rounder can be an impact day 1 contributor. That isn't usually a recipe for success.

Christian Kirk
Dennis Gardeck

all free agents as well
LOL on anyone who thinks were gonna pay Dennis Gardeck anything meaningful.

I can't believe we're gonna pay Christian Kirk, either.

The good news is that our secondary so far has been the one unalloyed positive from the season thus far.

I wasn't panicking because I didn't see how it was any worse really than last year, and at least there was some young depth that could develop.

Apparently the Cardinals think Marco Wilson will be the best of the bunch down the road.

What do you catagorize as "meaningful"

He is currently the 11th highest cap hit at 3.87 million dollars

Which certainly seems stupid right now, doesn't it? He has only the second-highest cap number on the IR list behind Jordan Phillips ($12m).

He has the about same cap hit at Jadeveon Clowney. I think Keim just misjudged the Edge Rusher market in free agency and ended up living in a world where he's paying Dennis Gardeck almost twice as much as Haason Reddick is getting paid.

still cant believe we spent 5 millionish on 1 year guys, one of which is 31 and the other coming off a late season ACL instead of finding a way to bring back one of the best, young pass rushers on the market who did his damage without much talent in front of him.

but back on tangent, Murphy has been great so far this season. The big surprise is Wilson being able to pay dividends immediately and that Mr. Glass is still on the field.

also pretty cool that 3 weeks into the year, we have 3 Players of the week.

i dont mind keeping Gardeck -- what i mind is a one year deal.

its the worst of both worlds from a team perspective: the Cards pay for an ACL recovery year and get nothing guaranteed going forward.

IF Dennis is the guy they think he is ,and shows that over the last 8 games of the season -- he is likely going to get a decent offer by some pass rush needy team.

why not a 2 or even 3 year deal that gives Dennis some relative security, but locks him up at a low rate if he is who they believe he is.

IMO it will work out better for the team this way... I kinda thought the contract was more to show appreciation for what he already did on a really cheap deal.... while locking him up so we can see if he can do it again.
but historically guys dont perform top notch their first season back from a knee... with medical advances its getting better but there is usually a down year before production resumes.... I honestly dont expect more than 3/4 sacks from Gardeck this season.
which is good for the team, means we can offer him a longer term deal at a lower rate since his production dropped. The timing on his injury was terrible for his bank account.

with Kirk...I think he was part of the reason for drafting Moore...not just isabellas failure.
I think we let Kirk go, run next season with Hop, Green, and Moore as the primaries..... then use another draft pick to replace green,...get a big young guy for the outside

unless of course Kirk really likes to have sunday dinners at moms house in which case we might actually get a legit hometown discount.... but I dont think so.

will be really interesting in a couple years when its time to extend Hop, and they realize if they give him market value they wont be able to keep Moore... because the way it looks right now those two are gonna be 1-2 in stats at the end of every season barring any injuries. do you keep the badass you traded for?? or the speedy badass you drafted who is five years younger? we dont have a fifth year option with Moore, and we would have just paid kyler his 40m a season.... gonna be hard pressed to keep two 20m WR's on the roster.

I still feel absolutely justified in doubting Keim, because counting on all the wild variables that had to break perfectly to indeed break perfectly is a bad recipe for success.
Having projected #1 CB Malcom Butler abruptly retire before the first game hardly counts as having everything "break perfectly"!

Its easier than just saying that "up until now, all of my doom and gloom was completely wrong".

Are you trying to start the "neener neener" posts again? lol Go back to my first post in this thread and chill.

Not being worse to the garbage that we had last year was not going to equate good enough this year. And thankfully (so far) we've been FAR better than "just not as bad as last year."

huh?

Gardeck is getting $3.4m. Reddick is on base $6m with incentives to $8m which he will almost certainly get.

Except...the Cardinals weren't actually that bad against the pass last year.

10th in yards.

So here's my thoughts and why I pointed it out.

The Cardinals weren't bad against the pass last year and most felt that the 2021 Cardinals CB was at least as good as the 2020. Quite a few of us felt the room was actually better.

And it has been...but I fully expect this week for the group to get slaughtered LOL.
