I understand that everybody is so excited about adding a second player who plays winning basketball that they can't wait to be rid of the other one, but there's no point in even discussing Shawn Marion trades any more.
--It looks like the Clips will match for Q, so trading Marion leaves a gaping hole in the Suns lineup (as opposed to the less obvious hole it would leave even with Q here)
--The fact that Marion is overpaid is irrelevant now, since the Suns are finished clearing salaries and going back to their old 'big budget' ways (plus, Marion is a lot less overpaid now than he was a month ago)
--The centers that are attainable (and might be worth trading for) are all low-salary players--Marion's salary won't match theirs without a crowbar and a bunch of the other team's garbage, and even then the Suns will have to add players to match value, meaning more garbage from the other team...
--How many teams have plenty of great centers but a hole at SF? Yeah, that's what I thought
--Marion can score without having plays run for them, so he's a perfect fit with Amare and Joe Johnson on offense
--Marion will be a much better player this year (with Steve Nash and no offseason weightlifting, and hopefully with no work at PF either) so giving him up now is selling low
--Marion isn't a shutdown defender, but he's not the reason the Suns are a poor defensive team--the Pistons are the best defensive team in recent memory, and they only have two shutdown defenders in their entire rotation
--Marion seems like a good guy, and trading him away will probably decrease the other players' enthusiasm and morale
The whole business doesn't make sense any more, so y'all might as well get comfortable with Marion still being on the team.
Besides, he's a pretty good player and he's fun to watch, know what I mean?
