Oh, I thought I commented on this one already. I went to an advanced screening the day before Christmas Eve. I wasn't planning on paying to go, but free is free. I won't make the "It was free but I wanted my money back" joke, as it wasn't hideously bad, but it wasn't great either. Without Willem Defoe, yes, it would be very bad. A visual feast with good acting, and a nice message against the stigmatization of mental health issues, but otherwise a complete bore.

It's Robert Eggers. Curious what you thought it would be.

Acting was decent. Visuals were good. But the sound(especially Nosferatu) was awful and the story was so damn boring. I felt like I was in the theater for 5 hours. It just dragged on in horrible fashion.

I don't follow his career. As it was free, I didn't have expectations. Looking back, all I've seen of his was Northman, which was hot garbage.
heresy.

The Northman was f'n awesome.

as for this, I heard wayyyyyy too much hype AND I thought the opening was unfortunately, the best part of the entire movie. After the opening scene, I was preparing myself for something truly terrifying and it just never got back to that level the rest of the movie.

Still a rock solid B for me, but at a certain point, what more of this story is there left to tell?

The Northman was well acted and visually appealing. Hmm, sounds like a trend.

Otherwise, eff no. That movie sucked balls. The writing was often out of left field stupid. I probably don't have to put this in spoilers, but:

"I am a great warrior who was with a war band and I have to get home fast, so obviously I must become a slave to do so." Say what? Why TF would you do that? Dumb de dumb dumb DUMB.
