I think if a trade like this goes down, Dallas could be better or worse, but their regular season wins will go down a bit. It would give the Suns an even better shot at getting the #1 seed and having an easier road to the WCF. JMO.

Your point? They are NOT trading Kobe to DALLAS if Dirk is not included in the deal PERIOD!!!!
I think the point is pretty clear. In today's NBA, you don't get superstar for superstar that often.

Add the AI trade to that list as well.

I haven't even looked at this yet, but LA Radio is a terrible source.

Odds are high it is a rumor from Hacksaw and that's as valuable as my dog telling me about a trade that's going to go down.

If it's the Loose Cannons, at least the source would be akin to coming from my 8 month old.

You are correct on both counts.

*yawn*

I'm kind of immune to the LA drama these days. Wake me up when the season starts and let me know who is on the roster.

I've been listening for the last few minutes.

Supposedly, Kobe has cleaned out his locker, hasn't practiced in two days, and Mitch and Kobe's agent just had a pow-wow.

Phil Jackson just confirmed that there are "things missing from Kobe's locker."

LOL. Drama.

Well, I am at work, and someone posted the link for the station, and I can't stand listening to anymore DBacks talk on Gambo & Ash.

I have to admit though, this has been entertaining.

y'all are waaaaaaaay underselling a kobe-dirk combo. dirk makes match up problems for nearly every team. the only thing he lacked was the killer instinct. guess who has that . . . kobe.

all that said, i don't see how two semi-worthless 1st (end of the draft likely for both), howard (who is a good player, but not even the level of an odom), and terry (aging non-point point guard) or harris (quick, no-shot non-point point guard) would be considered a good deal for the lakers. not compared to the potential suns deal:

barbs > terry or harris (younger than terry, better than harris)
howard > marion (but this is close - howard better b/c younger and can create own shot)
ATL pick >> 2 DAL's 1st rounders (that ATL pick will be MUCH higher than the two late late late DAL picks)

People keep comparing a potential Suns package the supposed Dallas package.

There is a difference here though. The Suns don't seem to be interesed in offering that package, so it really doesn't matter what package is better.

good point. and really a shame if true. this is one deal that the fans wouldn't cringe about like the marion/jj for mcgrady deal.

Can you trade a player who just signed an extension? I'm pretty sure you can't, which means Harris is out. Also, Howard is BYC. I don't get how this trade happens.

Looks to me like the radio guys are sniffing around a story and, per usual, blowing it up bigger than normal.

Not that Kobe's going to drop anything important, but I seriously doubt that the radio has picked up all these trade rumors and that his locker is cleaned and all the fury from the radio dorks, yet the print media really isn't all over it yet.

Blown out of proportion, per usual.

Nobody does drama like the Lakers.

I don't think he gets traded until the draft, but those LA writers sure are working overtime on this script...trying to get it in before the strike.

Just to get input from a lakers fan, if you were forced to take one which is better:

1) terry/howard/late 1st picks
2) marion/barbosa/atl pick

whether its true or not, this is the kind of stuff that's going to be happening all year. Kobe has NO leverage this year to force a trade and he knows its a PR nightmare to continue bad-mouthing/going AWOL. he's gotta play, and there's no deals out there good for the lakers. its a rock/hard place situation.

the dallas deal is ridiculous, not even talking about it more

the suns deal isn't happening. even if the suns offered it (which they should), that would mean Buss trades a 28 year old Kobe within division. i don't care how much better that makes you, you're not even winning a division title for the next 6 years.

there's only 2 places this can lead to, depending on the offers: Chicago or NJ.

LA is just as much about selling tickets as winning. Chicago would send Kobe far far away and net them good young talent. Kobe buys this as his best chance at leading a team to the title.

A Jersey deal with VC would let Buss still sell tickets and build around a guy that was just resigned. The idea here wouldn't be to win a title, but to make sure the Lakers were still an event (and Kobe goes far far away). Kobe would agree because its in a big market (Brooklyn shortly), play with JKidd, and in the east for a quick road to the title.

I'm guessing Buss would prefer Chicago over Jersey. I'm also guessing he knows the Jersey deal will be available all the way until the trade deadline in 2009, so he's in no hurry... unless of course ticket sales are hurt by whats going on.

Lakers are not trading Kobe to Dallas without Dirk being involved period! Not gonna trade your superstar for a bunch of role players.

Your point? They are NOT trading Kobe to DALLAS if Dirk is not included in the deal PERIOD!!!!

I like your reasoning. Let me dissect your argument, I believe its "PERIOD!!!", is that correct?

Superstars are rarely, if ever traded for one another. Its almost always Superstar traded for a bunch of role players. Please list me a trade in the last 10 years that involved players of Dirk and Kobes caliber swapping teams.

Marion can't create his own shot and would be terrible on that Lakers team. Plus, I hate Marion so I'm kind of biased, that way. I love Barbosa, but not so much as to offset how useless I think Marion is for a max contract player. Plus, I'd nver do that deal in division. In conference is bad enough, but not in division.

I'd probably want to turn both deals down...go for something with Chicago.

And plus, I think that LeBron is going to end up on the Brooklyn Nets.

LeBron and Kobe teamed up in a couple of years. A pipe dream for Stern that may actually have a shot of coming true.

you've got to realize that if you're getting rid of Kobe, you're building for the future - thus, Marion's worth isn't so much about him as a player, but him as a possible expiring contract next year and definitely the year after that, while still getting a very good SG (especially since his height will be diminished playing next to a 6'5 Crittenden), plus a potentially VERY HIGH lotto pick. That deal would give you cap space (huge for the LA market), a great young talent with a very moderate contract and a lotto pick. Not sure how else a mediocre team which needs to completely tear itself down in order to get better could turn that down.
