Barely days from being eliminated from the playoffs and the dreaded trade speculations begin!!! :biglaugh:

Let's see, last post season we were going to get Kobe, McGrady, Dampier, etc. How many of the trades/free agent signings came true? Uhm, exactly zero!!! Please for the love of Mike (D'Antoni), STOP! :biglaugh:

i think trade proposals help out EVERYONE a lot. it keeps the forum community together and talking throughout the offseason. it also helps others realize the value of players, especially our own.

what else would we be doing if we werent talking about our players this way? all we'd see here is:

"amare is getting better and is going to be a star."
"how good will nash be next year?"
"JJ will be a star."
"who are we going to draft?"
"lets talk about the news....that's not trade related."
"how many wins next year?"

all-in-all it makes for a pretty boring place for 5 months out of the year. i mean how much can we talk about that without repeating ourselves a billion times. at least here, we can converse about something....

Like Minnesota would do that! I agree. I don't mind trade proposals, but some of these are ridiculous like the Suns get Duncan for Jake Vokshul, Bo Outlaw, and Paul Shirley plus our second draft pick in this year's draft!

Most trade discussions end up becoming food fights between people who love our current players and people who feel it necessary to slam the Sun's current players so the Suns fans would be willing to trade them. After a while it gets really old.

Let's face it, we never predict the Suns' real blockbusters. Be honest, was there ANYONE who saw the Marbury/Hardaway cap dump coming? Did anyone imagine that a cap dump would lead the team to a 33 game turnaround?

Also, we were supposed to get Kobe, not Nash and Richardson. Noone on this board saw that coming, especially so soon in the free agency period. So much for all the months of posturing and fighting. :thud:

That's not always true. While many trades are a surprise some are public knowledge for weeks before they finally go down. The Barkley and Penny acquisitions were like this.

There was also a lot of speculation about Nash before he finally signed.

The speculation we talk about. The trades and proposed signings by our members tend to be really off target. Noone proposed Nash before we saw speculation in papers. You have to admit most trades, whether they pass realgm or not, are usually WAY off. Superstars (theirs) for trash (ours) trades, Marion for anyone, or five, six, and seven team trades when three team trades rarely occur in the NBA.

I'd rather we discuss the speculation and rumors in papers and web sites. Or at least reasonable trade proposals.

actually, I think you are wrong. I thought that Nash was talked about is a possibility quite frequently.

Someone did predict the salary dump - and to NY no less. However, it didn't include Marbury - just Penny and others.

I can't remember who it was, but the timing was incredible. I think they put it up a week before the trade went down.

It is no great shakes to predict a salary dump to the Knics. It is goal of every NBA team. ;)

The goal isn't to predict trades before they happen, although I think anyone would be thrilled to pull off such an accomplishment. As others have stated, the goal is to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the team.

I know that sometimes trade proposal threads can distract readers from more substantitive topics, like an analysis of which NBA teams need help at center, or when we are permitted to start giving any credibility to mock drafts. That is regrettable, but I still think they have their place. Perhaps threads on weightier topics can be specially flagged, so that no one will accidentally overlook them or otherwise fail to pay them proper attention.

At the same time, concerned posters can always trash trade proposal threads by grossly misrepresenting their substance, changing the focus to another topic, or rhapsodizing (musical term  ) on why the specific trade possibility is unlikely to occur.

Sound good?

Well we were the first ones to start the trend. I am pretty sure we were the first trade, definitely the first big trade Thomas made.

Well, as I said to start the post, Kobe, TMac, Dampier, were the big three that took up most the trade proposals in this forum. None of these guys ended up in Phoenix. If Nash or Q were mentioned it was considerably less energy than occured for the others that were debated/argued over!

I can come up with trading this guy for that, etc. That has no reality in what is legitamatly being rumored that the Suns will actually or could actually do. I was just struck by the timing of the posts. The Suns corpse of a season was still warm and we were already burying the team for next season! :D

Actually the Nash discussion was triggered by local news reports. What kept it from being a major topic was that no one believed Cuban would let Nash leave - or the price would be beyond the pale. Nash was expensive, but not as far out of line as most expected.

It might be an interesting to discuss which free agents everyone assumes will re-sign will actually move.

I KNOW Amre will be maxed. You let the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain go? No way!

JJ I worry about. Unless he re-signs at our price upfront, I worry some A$$ like Cuban will try and revenge the loss of Nash by making JJ's offer too high for us to match!

And how would he do that? He is way over the cap, so can only offer the MLE. Anyways, owners don't pull revenge moves on each other. Cuban had the right to match Nash, and he declined.

That's why I said "like Cuban" meaning it didn't have to be him necessarily. Any team under the cap could do it to us. ;)

No team under the cap has a big bankroll, nor any motivation to "screw over the suns because of Nash."

If JJ gets a big contract, it will be because the team thinks he is worth it. That is mostly the point I was trying to make.

All right, let's shut down the site all summer.

You have just got to see that some guys prefer talking about player movement vs. analyzing every play of every game. Right brainers are going to prefer the former, left brain people are going the like the latter. That is one reason that there are threads, you have a choice what you want to read and where you want to post.

Agreed! I am posting we should stop these outrageous trade proposals!! OK, if you get Brian C. to pass muster on your trade instead of RealGM, then it's probably OK to post! :D

My trade !!!!
Marion for a 7'9 center who scores 40PG and RBs 15. Shoots threes, is a great citizend and a leader on and in the lockeroom. He also needs to have a catchy knickname becuase that is just as important as your game. so yeah this is a good deal..I checked it on oldlazywhitemen.com/nba/realgm and the numbers could work when they find him.

I don't know why the Suns just don't go out and get this guy. Jesus!!!!
