After reading that digital bits review I am actually pretty excited to see these new DVD versions.

Most of the changes look pretty good.

I always thought the changes in ESB were the best. The Ice cave scene actually makes sense now and I thought they did an awesome job adding the windows to Cloud City.

The Greedo scene in ANH is pretty lame but it sounds now like it is a little better than the '97 version.

I used to be pretty upset that he kept changing these films but after watching that documentary "Empire of Dreams" I have softened my attitude a little. It seems like the studio squeezed him quite a bit when he was making ANH so if he wants to "fix" it that is his perogative.

I sure hope he issues a release of the theatrical version someday. That is I hope the original release of the movies are not lost with all the changes and restoration of the original films.

(Now I'm waiting for the wrath of BIM!) :jedi:

BIM, lifelong diehard Star Wars geek, will NOT be buying this faux trilogy on dvd.

:ihavethetrueoriginaltrilogyonvhs:

I saw ANH, ESB, and ROTJ many many times on the big screen when they were released...and/or...re-released (original, not SE) at various times.

I've seen the so-called special editions, but like many SW geeks - I prefer the SW I saw on the big screen so many years ago.

There is an absolute need for the trilogy to be on dvd as it was originally shown in the theaters. Until then, I'll pass.

(I knew that was coming! LOL!) I would LOVE to be able to own BOTH versions on dvd! In the mean time, anything is better than nothing, IMO! We don't have any of the tapes, old or new.

Yeah there is a scene at the end where Han Solo and Chewbacca take their trunk full of reward money and go looking for their own "happy ending" :)

With all of the changes Lucas made...why didn't he just include the ORIGINAL scenes as deleted scenes.

It always cracked me up when the star wars toys came out - one of my friends had a biggs action figure. I could never figure out why they would put out an action figure of a character that died....then I heard there was an actual scene that got deleted (sp?) and I was like ohhh....

Yeah....but his time in the entire movie was longer than 20 seconds and actually carried over into empire and return of the jedi.

Ok this thread has been bothering me so I went back and checked.

In my original copy of stars wars bought in the 80's Only Han Solo shoots. Greedo never does. In the remade version a few years back Greedo shoots first.

So if Greedo doesnt shoot first now wouldnt that be bringing back the roiginal concept?

Not really cause they shoot at the same time and in the original Greedo never shot!

BIM am I right or wrong on the above post?

The very original only Solo shot right?

Yes, you're right. It showed Han to be underhanded and tricky. It makes him a more interesting character.

The 1996-97 version downright sucked. This new version is strange... how does Greedo's shot miss him by over a 2 feet? They're at point blank range!! I really like the new additions to the trilogy now that I've had it for a week, and seeing the trilogy in a widescreen digital image is fantastic, but that is one change I just simply don't understand.
