When you read Aaron Holiday's profile on thestepien he sounds exactly like Brandon Knight.

It's almost unfair to compare anyone to Brandon Knight. As long as his mental makeup is different he could be quite a good player. But as someone else said Aaron's more of 2 in a 1's body and that's not what we need - I agree with that evaluation after watching a couple of videos. I hope McD is laying down a smoke screen. I'd much rather have a 2 in a 2's body, especially if that body is Zaire. I love his nose for the ball and his hops are amazing.

Im liking Zhaire Smith at 16 and Ellie Okobo at 31. I would also consider Brunson at 31 if available.

That wouldn't be a bad haul... there are a raft of good players on into the second round this year. I noticed Okobo during the Slovenia run last summer - played for France IIRC. Igor should have Elie nailed - hope he's on the McD's radar.

At this point, with all the players tha we have, I just can’t see us bringing in any more than two players from this draft. I like the talent at 31 but I just don’t see the room on the roster.

That's where the Two-Way contracts come in handy. We have the 15 man roster and 2 more spots with Two-Way players. I would imagine that is what Davon Reed may be contending for this year, if he's kept, same with Alec Peters and Shaq Harrison. Our 2nd round picks this year will be vying for those spots also. The best of the bunch will make that 15 man roster but knowing we can see 2 more kept and on the main roster for a portion of the season is better than how it was before. They get 45 days on the main roster until the G-League season is over, then they're able to stay full time. I believe that happened in the middle of March last season, which gave those guys almost an extra month with the main roster.

I wish they expanded things a little bit more. Adding a 3rd Two-Way contract for each team as well as allowing a team to retain a players rights fully but signing them directly to a developmental deal where they stay in the G-League for an entire season and can not be poached by another team. I suspect we'll see the Two-Way contracts expanded in the near future as the NBA seems serious about the G-League being a true minor league system. This next year will see the first case of a highly recruited player skipping 1 year of NCAA basketball to join the G-League right away, instead of going overseas. I can't remember his name but I know there was a post about him here with a lot of the posters discussing the potential change in the whole prep to pro path if he's successful. The G-League upped their salaries for players and with the recent NCAA/FBI scandal, the NBA is in a great position to make the G-League a more attractive option in years to come.

I will be surprised if we if we use any of our picks outside of #1 to do anything other than trade up or trade for a vet. Last thing we need is another rookie project.

How many quality players have the suns ever drafted beyond 16?

I don't know the players well enough before the 80s, but since 1979:

Mark Eaton at 107
Larry Nance at 20
Jeff Hornacek at 46
Steve Kerr at 50
Jayson Williams at 21
Cedric Ceballos at 48
Richard Dumas at 46
Michael Finley at 21
Rajon Rondo at 21 (traded him, of course)
Bogdan Bogdanovic at 27 (also traded; quality yet to be determined but promising)

And, of course, Nash was taken at 15 and Booker at 13.

Yup used to be a regular occurrence.

I'd like to see the Suns just go BPA. As much as I'd like to get a young PG, a good young wing to go with Booker, Jackson, and Warren wouldn't be a bad thing since wings can fill so many roles.

I think the number one move is to try to trade the farm to get Young. A lineup of Young, Booker, Jackson, Bender/Chriss, and Ayton has championship potential down the road. I'd throw most of the acquired draft capital over the next few years at a trade up.

I really like this plan. I would add also look to add a quality 3-and-d power forward, with emphasis on defense. Mbah a Moute would be the perfect fit with that roster imho

Mbah a Moute would be a solid free agent acquisition for the right price. He will be 32 in September so I wouldn't want to overpay, especially on a longer contract.

Agreed, but right now, we can do one of two things - talk about trade scenarios, or keep the picks. The only thing we do know right this moment is that we have the picks, so I don't think there's anything wrong with speculating in case we keep them.

Yeah. I was thinking about this. It is about all we can do. Who knows which picks we would be keeping. I think it would be worthwhile to talk about what players would be trade worthy (I was going to say "on the auction block" but just realized how revoltingly racist that comment is, wow. Things you say for years without thinking) right now.

Id make a trade to Miami for Goran. Lets stop the 3rd tier PG BS already and bring back a proven player at that position. With his relationship with Koko at HC he should excel in his system even more.

Good catch. Barbosa was awesome.
Can’t count the guys we drafted and traded before ever playing for us and the guys drafted by other teams that were traded to us, that’s kinda double counting. Barbs was drafted by spurs for us.

Wow, I was about to say that I don’t think that phrase has racist/slave background but was a general auction term but decided to look it up. According to dictionary.com the definition seems to be more general, the example of usage is slaves and the origin is American 1840s and slave-related. I’m glad I learned something today to never use again.

Ah, yes. Must have been why I missed it in the first place. I'm getting rid of Rondo and Bogdan from my list and am replacing them with the Roadrunner.

I thought the same way as you. I am not going to be critical of those who use it, because I have often, up until today. I imagine it is OK when talking about a house, car, etc, but when you are talking about people in a league where many ancestors of the players were slaves, I just cannot use it anymore.
