I'm kind of surprised people think we'll be able to fill our PG hole better through the draft than a trade. I don't know if we'll get a starter or not, probably not, but short of drafting Young of Shai, we won't be adding a guy that is more than a backup PG through the draft. The dropoff in PG's this year in the draft after the top 3-4 is pretty far. It goes from potential stars in Young and Doncic, decent starters in Shai and Sexton, and then maybe 2nd string players like Holiday, Brunson, etc. The guys beyond Shai and Sexton won't be more than backups and they may not be ready to step into a backup role next year if we keep Payton, we'll have Knight already and they'll need to beat out Ulis, Canaan, and Harrison to be our 3rd string PG.
I'd rather trade for a PG that is at least around Payton's level, who would be cheaper this season, allowing us to spend more elsewhere in free agency.
