Its good to see I am not the only soccer fan around here. I coach youth soccer, have been doing it for years now.

Didn't Claudio Reyna(US Captain) play for Sunderland recently? I know he plays for Manchester City now but it couldn't have been more than 1 or 2 years ago.

I love the game so much I'm considering leaving my current job in the government to open my own soccer store in the east Valley. Still weighing my options...

yep, Reyna played for us for about three years - he was top class and on one of my favs for sure - we sold him last year to Man City when we got relegated to Div 1

The top 4 are promoted automatically. The next two have to playoff of some sort. That's why the teams all fight to get into the top 6 in the lower divisions.

nearly there Renz - its the top 2 who go up automatically and the next 4 playoff (3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5 over two legs home and away and winners of each play one off game to see who goes up as third team) we are 4 at the moment although Millwall are winning tonight so might go back down to Ffifth

Thanks. I thought four went up. Great to see the Black Cats beat Derby today to move into third place.

Can't wait for April 4th!

Thanks for the link to the goals. :)

I'm behind Sunderland to advance as much as anyone. However, IMHO they're all playing for the right get "stomped like a narc at a biker rally" by Arsenal. Arsenal is playing the best of any EPL team in years, and looks to continue that trend no matter who they play. But then again, anything can happen! With a lot of heart and some much needed luck, Sunderland may reign supreme.

you might be right there but if SAFC get to final it will mean a place in the UEFA cup as Arsenal will already be in Champions Lge - so its a massive game for us either way !!

in the lge we have a game in hand on top two and still have to play them both at home- so it could come good there also

I watched the game on PPV. I thought the Black Cats would dominate the way the first few minutes started out. Too bad no one could put a shot on net in the first half. Hopefully they can regain their focus for the league game tomorrow.

Best case would be to get promoted automatically, but knocking Millwall out of the promotion playoffs would be great too.

i am off work today as i thought i would have hang over but just was not in the mood to drink when i got back

good to see you watched it - KEEP THE FAITH

Yeah, bad loss for you guys...I was actually a little bummed when I saw the score, as I harbor no ill will towards the team. Ah, well...at least you do still have something you're playing for.

As for us, it may not have been a hugely convincing 4-2 victory, but I'll take a victory any way it comes at this point. We're now still just 1 point out of a Champ's league spot, and we still have a few easy opponents and Liverpool, our rivals for that spot, coming up in the last few games. Should be fun!

I was looking for you. A bit hard to make you out in all that red and white. Did you have good seats? Damn! I wish the lads could have put one in the net!

I had a few questions for you. What happens to teams who get relegated out of Division 3? Where do they go?

When teams get relegated out of the EPL why do they lose so much money? I saw where SAFC was more than 30 million pounds in debt after relegation and that is why they had to sell Kevin Phillips and Claudio Reyna. Seems like a vicious cycle when relegated teams have to sell off their best players.

Also, what is the origin of "Mackem"?

Thanks. Beat the Dons!

if you get relegated out of div 3 you go into the Football Conference - its like a div 4 but not part of football league so sponsors etc are dif also most team are part time (normally the team that coes down stay pro for a few years in the hope of coming straight back up) Chester ( a town just outside Liverpool) are top of the Conf at the moment !! and last year Conf winners were Doncaster who are sitting top of Div 3 at the moment so things can change quite quickly if you have a good few years

the term Mackem orginally comes from the term 'Mackem and Tackem' (make them and take them) in reference to the way we speak up here in the north east of England, in particular it is due to Sunderland once being the main City for Ship building in the country so 'mackem and tackem' is basiclly saying we make them (the ships that is) and you take them (when they are done)

and that is why we are the Mackem's

also just an extra piece of useless info is why we are called the balck cats - we were originally nicknamed the 'Rokerites' because we played at Roker Park before moving to the Stadium of Light (the site of which is about a mile from where Roker used to be) so we needed a new name - Black cats was chosen because it was how some sides have always know us becasuse of guns that defended the mouth of the river Wear (the river which runs through Sunderland) were called the Black Cats

oh and we beat Wimbeldon 2-1 and they are now relegated to div 2 LOL
