When did they say the 6th pick will not be for a PG? - they have said nothing of the kind.

The plan is clearly to draft a guard to develop and get a free agent as a stop gap for a year or two.

The obvious plan is to sign a vet PG preferably draft garland, hopefully create some cap space by moving Johnson and Warren and sign a PF - hopefully Randle.
It was quoted her quite a bit yesterday. Through John Gambadoro for one.

Hold on. I thought you were talking about the 6th pick for a veteran PG that we were discussing yesterday. That's what I was talking about. Didn't I say the draft pick will be for a PG or that we are keeping the 6th pick?

I see where you got that idea. OK no 6th pick trade for a vet PG. We are keeping the 6th pick, be it a PG or PF. I was joking the 6th pick could still be technically traded for a veteran PF. Sorry for the confusion.

Its funny to read the Nets boards and Suns boards on RealGM. Nets guys value Dinwiddie less than the Suns guys do. Both teams fans talking about a deal. You would think something should be able to be done that would make both teams happy.

Well, if Dinwiddie is legitimately obtainable, he would probably be at the top of the list of guys to bring in. I don't expect we would be in on any Holliday deal. I just don't see that we have the right pieces to make that happen, unless you want to gamble a future unprotected first round pick (and I know I wouldn't).

My guess is Holmes' recent arrest has probably sealed that, even if it isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of transgressions. It is the kind of mistake you really should not be making when you are a lower tier free agent looking for a new deal, and likely gives even a team like the Suns (who need all the help they can get) second thoughts about risking a longer term deal on him.
You are probably right. They are stressing culture and player smarts a lot. That said, I thought Holmes' skills and his enthusiasm helped rally the team on many nights. You almost HAVE to keep Oubre if you get rid of Holmes. We need those spark plug guys!

Yeah, it's unfortunate. I think he could be a solid role player, especially if some issues get sorted out and the team improves overall next year. But I can also see where they don't want to risk any more bad publicity to add to the perception of being a generally hapless franchise.

That is interesting.

So for comparison I just looked up his advanced stats
16.3 per VORP 0.8 BPM -0.2

I must admit I thought he was better than that. Only shoots 33% from 3 also, and is not a very good defender.

But looking deeper he finished the season terribly, his fg% cratered in March and April to below 40% and to only 15% from 3 in April, so I could see why knowing recency bias why the Nets fans might be down on him.

He was actually playing pretty well in November - January - which is probably why I was higher on him because I wanted us to get him at the trade deadline before they extended him.

That almost sounds like something personal happened around that time, if there's no injury. He has been a vet too long just to suddenly forget how to play.

He did tear ligaments in his thumb - he didn't play at all if February.

I guess that could be the reason for his shooting problems the rest of the season perhaps.

This is interesting. Looks like Dinwiddie might want to be a Sun.

I guess that shouldn't be too much of a surprise, I am sure he wants to be a starter.

I believe he had a hand or finger injury midway through the season.

Oubre is more than just a spark plug though. He is the third best player on the Suns team.

Gambo also said today that the Suns most likely will not look to resign Holmes - which to me is a bad move.

This would concern me more if not for Gambo's record of being wrong almost all of the time.

That said, if the Suns let Holmes go, it will be a huge mistake. He was one of their biggest difference-makers last season.

For Jrue? Pels would hang up before you even got it out.

I'm not so sure. In a straight value for value it's a steal for us but with his age, injury history and contract, they might have to take less than full value. But like Conley, I'm quite sure he wants to go to a true contender not a long-shot playoff hopeful team like we'd be if that trade went through as is (or thereabouts).

Gambo says they will target Dedmon to replace him. Monty and Dedmon were in the Spurs org at the same time. Dewayne has added a very competent three point shot to his arsenal in the last two years. If this is true (Gambo's assertion), I am all for it.

If the price is reasonable I'm all for it too. I'm fine with keeping Holmes too but I like that we have a plan at least.

Holmes is about four years younger than Dedmon although I have no problem adding him to the roster.

I wish the Suns were targeting Zubac, Thomas Bryant and Trey Lyles among others.

Dedmon is four years older, has a much lower block rate, and lacks the agility to play PF even in small stretches. And "targeting" him doesn't mean they'll get him. Letting Holmes go in order to "target" Dedmon is exactly the kind of stupid decision this franchise seems hell-bent on making.

It's hard to separate opinion from fact with Gambadoro.

No it isn’t.

I have found him to be very accurate when it comes to his suns news.

People try to claim he got the draft wrong last year, but he didn’t. The news he reported only turned out wrong once philly offered bridges.

If he says Holmes is gone I believe him.

He signed his extension in the middle of December, which is cause for concern if his played trailed off afterward.

Fair enough, although Bridges better be a borderline star to justify his exclusion for someone like Holiday. Pair Holiday with Book/Ayton, get a decent PF, and you can legitimately talk about making the playoffs. Not sure Collison is going to make much of a difference on a 19 win team, even with some improvement from the young'uns.

I think Bridges will be a incredible role player, but I wouldn't hesitate to include him in a Holiday deal. Unfortunately it would likely take far more than Bridges to get a deal done.
I actually think someone like collison would make a bigger difference then most would expect, the sun's horrendous shooting output from their point guards last year lost them at least 10 games , collison is a great 3pt shooter that difference alone probably would have added at least 5 wins last year if not a few more

I think your Holiday vs. Bridges argument is a good one, and a logical one. I think it comes down to how valuable someone thinks Bridges is going to be, and how soon we want the Suns to be in the playoff hunt. Suns would be MUCH better with Holiday and no Bridges next year, especially if Oubre is back. They would probably be better the year after as well. It's about at that point that I think Bridges will bypass Holiday.
