He should send out videos of himself dunking. Worked for Penny Hardaway.

Do it. If the Suns training staff can work their magic on Michael Redd, why not at least give Oden a shot? He'll never be what he could have been. But that doesn't mean he can't be an above average center.

Trade Gortat for something for the future and play O'Neal/Oden at center for the rest of the season not that it matters if we have a center rotation or not..

Yep, not a reason in the world with our current situation and training staff that he shouldn't be trying to revive his career here.

I'd be ok taking a shot, but I wouldn't guarantee a 2nd year. Let the training staff look him over and give him a trial to end the season, but don't commit beyond that.

LOL... I just saw this title and thought how many posts until Slin says we should throw money at him that no other team would.

Would he even be ready this season? Seems like you wouldn't be able to get a true grasp of his health or ability until next season.

At the very least, I can't argue with trying to get him in here as soon as possible to get our staff working on him. Regardless of whether he gets game action.

as if a 2 yr/6M$ deal would hurt us, we are best off saving our capspace for a while anyway and a short term deal won't hurt.

The article states he's wanting to return this season. Whether or not he's ready will remain to be seen but it would at least it would give the team time to evaluate him.

You don't have any indication that Oden will be able to play at all, throwing a guaranteed contract at him that runs beyond this season is asinine regardless of the amount.

Oden has played 82 games in his entire career. 82 out of a possible 394 not counting this current season and hasn't played at all in over 3 years.

If the Suns could sign Oden with some team options after the first season. I believe Tucker has that type of contract.

The more I think about this the more I come to the conclusion that some team will be dumb enough to give him a stupid contract. (More than what, I hope, the Suns would be willing to give.)

He'd be wise to come here though and get some of that Suns training staff voodoo. Even if to just rejuvenate his career after a few decent years in a Suns jersey.

Anything more than a minimum contract....screw that. He will get hurt again. Why would we be stupid enough to chew up even 6 million in cap room for 2 years when he probably gets hurt within his first 5 games?

Why not sign him to a minimum deal, make him prove he can stay healthy then sign him longer term?

While at the same time dumping Gortat.

Oden, in the rare instances that he was "healthy," was giving the Blazers more than what Gortat is currently giving the Suns.

I know he only played 21 games in his rookie year, but he was putting up 11/8 on 60% shooting in 24 minutes a game. Plus a little over 2 blocks.

I'll actually agree with Slin that he's worth 6 million over 2 years. It's worth a gamble with this staff.

Not directly related to Oden, and I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting a little tired of Gortat. Ever since he trained with Olajuwon he has looked soft. Tries to get too cute.

Where's the Gortat that we saw his first season here against NO, when he went nuts and had 25/11? I remember that game pretty well. He was quick to the basket and had a few pretty impressive dunks. Now he seems to get way too fancy with spin moves and fadeaways.

Gortat looks about the same to me. He has always been afraid of contact, and avoids dunking more than any big man I've ever seen. Once in a while he'll dunk to finish a pick-and-roll, and that happened more with Nash than it does now, but besides that he's marshmallow soft and always has been.

Sorry, but I remember a player named Boris Diaw.

I've felt this way for quite sometime now. At first I thought Gortat may have wore down playing in the off season in Europe. Then I blamed it on his seeming lighter weight and loss of bulk (my perception). Now I just feel he plays soft or lacks strength. I've heard it said before, that he has the build of a SF. He sure plays this way underneath the basket. His power game seems to have deteriorated since his arrival.
