You heard me right, our o-line needs work.
I was at the practice yesterday with the intent of keeping an eye on the "revamped" offensive line, and even with the caveat that "it's only the second day of real practice", I was still disappointed.
Granted, things are good on the left side with Velhdeer and Iupati, they look to "be clicking" playing next to one another. However, Iupati had problems with his pass blocking. He should improve as he gets more acclimated to our scheme.
Cooper is playing better than he was at the same point last year, but his technique is in serious need of improvement. Coop should get better as camp goes on, as he adjusts to life on the right side, but he and Massie aren't just on different pages, I'd say they're reading different books. From what I could saw, it would seem that Cooper has a better grasp of where he should be than Massie. Massie looked lost at times, and got overwhelmed at other times. Not a good sign, in my book, from a guy in his 4th year. Humphries didn't practice, I can only hope that he's good enough to unseat Massie.
Needlless to say, I'm officially off of the Massie bandwagon.
This leads me to my biggest concern...center! AQ Shipley and Ted Larsen were regularly bullied as neither could consistently hold their ground against either first or second team defensive lineups. They may have the mental capacity to play center, and I have no doubt in their work ethics. They're just too small too anchor the middle of the line...Shipley especially! I had to check to see where he was listed, and the Cards website states he's 6'1". That measurement must have been taken with cleats on, standing on a tile floor. He can't be taller than than 5'11". I never thought I'd say this, but if he's healthy we need to bring Sendlein back.
