The Chiefs did not score a TD in pre-season until last night. Does that mean their offense is bad? No, they will still be in the top of the leauge in scoring. Blake said we were plain vanilla, and did not do use any of the play book involving Boldin. Freddie Jones alluded to the fact that back-up running backs were the focus of the game. We saw bits and pieces last night. With Smith, Jones and Hodgins on the field we will move the chains.

Out of Mesa, Into Gilbert!
MJ said on the TV last night that Jerry Sullivan was going to make a forced effort to run the ball. He wants to see how some of the plays work with the personel. They were running the ball just for the point of it. I'm not too worried.

We were not running a gameplan, or taking advantage of the defence.

With that knowledge, I'm not too worried. Also, if Anderson isn't the 3rd back on the roster, I will be shocked!

I posted on another thread...but thought I would repeat it here..watching at Training camp the 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills - the most common plays (especially in the red zone drills!) were to to emmit or shipp out of the backfield (short passes), hodgins on short to intermediate routes and downfield throws to Freddie Jones..There were obviously plays to wide receivers (boldin is mentioned alot)..but a big part of the offense involves hodgins, smith/shipp and jones..and last night we did not use them. hopefully, the offense will look better against Detroit.

I agree that the offense will look different with the starters playing, but it's obvious that we aren't very deep at WR. I hate to say it, but McAddley and Gilmore just aren't very good at this point in their careers. They're fast, but they just don't have great hands. Soliday and the free agents just are not NFL ready. This position will be a gamble, and I really wish that the Cardinals would have signed Freeman or somebody with proven success for this season. Next year we'll be okay at WR, but this year it could really hurt. Foster, Johnson, Boldin, Kasper, Gilmore, McAddley, and maybe Walker will be our WRs, and that basically means that we have seven #3 receivers playing all the spots. Not an upgrade from last year.
Jerry's not stupid. We'll see a lot of screen passes to the RBs because our WRs won't be consistent enough to rely on.
