Francies starts career at American River Junior College in 2005 season and records 11 interceptions while averaging 36.8 yards per kickoff return and 17.4 yards per punt return. He enrolls at Oregon State prior to the 2006 season and appears in all 14 games that season. Francies records 39 tackles including five tackles-for-loss, two sacks. He also intercepts one pass forces four fumbles, recovers one fumble, breaks up five passes and averages 22.4 yards per kickoff return. Oregon State dismisses Fancies from the team in 2007 and he transfers to San Jose State where he sits out for a year in compliance with NCAA transfer rules. Francies starts all 12 games in 2008 accumulating 69 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, three interceptions, three passes broken up and three fumble recoveries. He also returns six kickoffs for a total of 148 yards and 10 punts for a total of 29 yards. Francies earns second team All-WAC honors in 2008.
