I would expect Phoenix called GS to ask who they were taking. Finding out it was their player, they sent some money to persuade GS to take a player they liked almost as much as Goodwin.

I love this pick at the end of the first round.

I was hoping Carrick Felix would fall to the Suns... not so.

With the likely two most talented/high upside guys on the board, the Suns reached for a guy who couldn't make 1st, 2nd or 3rd team all conference.

With #30, they take a highly recruited HS player who didn't do much in college besides this:

When quality players (Shabazz, Snell) fell to the middle of the 1st round, the Suns either didn't try, or failed to, move up and get any of them.

D- or so for me on that 1st round. I was so excited for McDonough and Hornacek, but wow, after tonight I'm right back to feeling like I have for the past few years with the Suns.

Chasing out Blanks, bringing in this young hot shot, finally admitting the team needs to rebuild. Now they're talking about having our slightly above average Center be a mentor to Alex Len.

This is so dejecting.

It's hard to believe that the Warriors could be that stupid. If someone asks who you're taking, you either lie or don't say anything. Never give away information in a game of strategy.

Okay, it's early in the second round. We're at that point in the draft where I'd be calling around to add another pick cheap so we can grab that center out of Maryland. It's a gamble but for a couple of bucks, I'd take it.

My disappointment isn't so much with who they took, but in the fact it looks like they will come back with a lineup of Dragic + Dudley + Scola + Gortat + Frye/FA (or *gag* Beasley), put together a miserable 32 win season and end up with something like the 11th pick in next year's lottery. Lather, rinse, repeat...

It's not like a top-10 pick. You aren't going to get a team to move from 30 to 29 unless they are sure you have their player.

How do you know they weren't lying?

I do not want the Suns to acquire any more picks in this years draft, the only thing left for them to do are to turn Gortat and Dudley into first round picks next year best draft in a decade. We should be awful next year which is actually a good thing imo and have some tradable assets, could turn things around pretty quick after next year.

So, do you trade for Jamaal Franklin just so that we could play the funny non-shooting lineup of Marshall, Goodwin, and Franklin?

I imagine that moving Gortat and Dudley will be something they do midseason at this point. Which is a shame, because that means those two will help them win 5-10 more games than we'd like them to (ping pong ball wise that is).

No bad or even mediocre teams are going to be interested in moving picks in next years apparently deep draft. So they'll have to look for contenders, or maybe teams that are super desperate to make the playoffs (Cleveland?) to move those guys to.

If the Suns assume that the answer is likely to be a lie, why bother to ask the question?

Obviously I don't know who initiated the conversation, but it's very likely that, at some point, it went something like this:

Suns: Hey Warriors, there's a player we want at 29. Do you have your heart set on someone?

Warriors: Not really. We could trade down a spot. What are you offering?

Suns: The #30 and X.

Warriors: Yeah, okay, sure. There are a couple of players we'd be equally happy with.

But what is X? The Suns 2nd rounder would make the most sense I guess. But Im sure we all hope they didn't give up too much to move up 1 slot, especially for Goodwin.

I like Bill Simmons but am I the only one that thinks this is the wrong environment for him? He's trying too hard to be funny in a forum where information should rule the day. We also don't need to keep hearing about the demise of his Celtics.

It might be our 2nd. Don't they have to wait until the last draft pick in a trade is chosen before announcing the trade?

Since they haven't announced it, I'll guess it is for a 2nd rounder.

FYI...

@gswscribe: Malcolm Lee is not coming to the Warriors. Minnesota forced GSW to take Lee, then Warriors dumped him off on Phoenix

I actually really liked Malcolm Lee coming out of that draft. He was supposedly one of the best on ball defenders in the draft 2 years ago.

I believe it was cash.
It was for Malcom Lee. GS wanted a team to dump Lee off to and the Suns obliged.

Minnesota hated him and forced the Warriors to take him...its bad if the SG depleted T-Wolves are forcing you to go elsewhere.

That pic is hilarious and is the sole thing that gives me any happiness about the Suns' draft. When they took Len, instead of Noel or McLemore, it was the most disgusted I've been about a draft choice since the infamous Cardinals trade down where they passed on Suggs.

You guys are overthinking this. #5 pick was decent with Len. Noel is just as volatile a prospect. They all are. It was a suspect draft in terms of NBA talent anyway.

Well they just announced the first part of the trade, not including the Suns.

Now we're up.

I liked Siva so he gets drafted at #56.
