Not a drop of rain in east Mesa. Barely saw an ominous cloud. Nature has forsaken me for yet another day.

Per the National Weather Service Forecast Discussion last night they thought drier air was going to move in over the Yavapai County area today. But this morning they changed their mind and increased the thunderstorm chances back to 30% for us today. It might have something to do with that as of 9am there were already light showers and some thunder and lightning in the area. LOL

Way to go out on a limb, NWS :)

What?
Dang it's humid today. The swampass factor is less than 30 seconds.

I'll keep you posted, but likely nothing will happen until after 5pm, so we have a ways to go :)

But seriously Mike.. Do you have weather gauges and equipment at your house? I ask cuz last nite you gave the amount of rain that fell and all.. I just picture your wife thinking to herself "oh here comes the rain, I wont be able to talk to him for a few hours".. :D

Well I can't speak for Mike but my wife is sure like that. But she understands since I am completing my degree in Meteorology that this is my hobby/work. :) On the rain gauges I am trying to convince my apartment complex to let me put one up. lol

So I went to work for a bit before school and on the way to school the sky opened up for a bit. Other than that though it hasn't rained anymore though.

That's how she is :) She tries to pretend she's interested, but she's not :)

I wish I had a true weather station, but I just have this remote temperature sensor for outside and I have a cheap $4 rain gauge from Home depot.

I put it in the middle of the yard before the storm to see how much rain we'd end up with.

That would be great...hmmmm....

I think there's a market for it, I'm on conference calls all day with people from the midwest and such and they have no concept of what the weather in AZ is like. Plus people who are moving here would like to get some information about when it gets hot, when it gets cold.... because believe it or not it does get below freezing here.

Then you could list what plants do well in our weather, what plants should be protected from frost. Then have a yearly huge contest to predict the start of the monsoon for prizes. I bet you'd have a spot on one of the morning Arizona news shows in no time

Yeah, right :)

But I might move in a year, so that would flop...but it's still a good idea...I was thinking that you wouldn't have much going on in the winter months, but plants and freeze warnings, etc...wouldn't be so bad.

What's sad is I could probably have this all up and running in like an hour if I wanted :)

Mike, you need to call the NWS Phoenix desk and ask if Javier is still there. He was my primary source when I started at the Tribune years ago writing weather stories. He wrote one of the earliest studies on El Nino and has a better grasp on Arizona weather cycles than anyone I know.
