What's depressing tonight, and this is how sad I am...I will be at the Snow Patrol concert downtown and miss the storms that seem to be rolling in.

I really, REALLY hope someone in Chandler can man up and give me a play by play :)

Chandler Mike's weather forecast for today:

"From looking at the fraking radar, there appears to be a ZERO POINT ZERO percent chance of precipitation this afternoon and evening...I hope you saved your two-tenths of rainfall on Monday so you have something to dry out your parched throat with tonight...."

100 degrees at 7:03A this morning.

I am thinking of hiding in a box at Chandler Mike's moving day.

Time lapse of an Arizona thunderstorm. Was pretty cool to watch, even if they didn't capture any rain.

That was awesome!

What's really great about it I think, is that clouds form from air rising and cooling, or somehting like that, and you can see the small clouds above the dust storm building right over the dust as it rolls in.

The downstream that creates the storm blows out, then as the dust pushes forward, the air rushes back up..

At least, it looked like that from this video...remarkable.

Looks like tonight will be the start of an upswing in thunderstorm activity and probably the official start to the monsoon season (which we will find out in 3 days)

From the 10:30 NWS forecast discussion:

"STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS FROM THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO GENERATE A DUST STORM BETWEEN TUCSON AND PHOENIX THIS EVENING WITH THE DUST STORM SPREADING NORTHWEST AT LEAST INTO SOUTHEAST PORTIONS OF THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA AND POSSIBLY ACROSS THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA THIS EVENING. THE FORECAST ALREADY INCLUDES AREAS OF BLOWING DUST FOR THE SOUTH-CENTRAL DESERT AREAS INCLUDING THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA...BUT WE ARE CONSIDERING RAISING THE POSSIBILITY OF THUNDERSTORMS INTO THE CHANCE CATEGORY FOR SOUTH-CENTRAL ARIZONA DESERT AREAS INCLUDING THE GREATER PHOENIX AREA FOR THIS EVENING."

Yeah, you can really see the summer Atlantic tropical flow set up nicely. There are four large systems from the western African coast up to the Texas Gulf Coast right now. Looks like Houston is getting blasted right now by a system that stretches from Louisiana into northeastern Mexico. There's another system gaining some steam off the coast of Venezuela right now.

No cyclones expected in the next 48 hours, but it does look like all that heat the last couple of weeks have warmed the Gulf Coast waters.

We also have another large system moving in from what looks like just off Mexico city. I'm guessing we're going to get a nice mix of Gulf and Pacific moisture to start fueling some storms!

I'm sure all those signs and warnings will end up meaning we get NOTHING this weekend :)
