We were going to the Black River which is southwest of Springerville until literally hours before we left when my wife said she wasnt going there because the forecast called for thunderstorms all weekend.

Personally I dont really mind the rain but my wife does so we headed down south.

Going in 2 weeks. I cannot wait! I'm gonna blog about my prep because I need something to pass the time!

Worked for me. Good read and I agree with you that RV's and trailers arent really camping (I mean really, if you have a microwave can you really call it camping?) unless your health prevents you from actually sleeping in a tent. Then you get to do whatever gets you outdoors. [emoji2]

first ive heard of "glamping" rvs are far more hardcore than that IMO.

rvs are good for when your camping with lots of people or taking toys out and want to spend all your time popping brodies vs setting up tents.

Oh...and I just got back from our trip south of Tucson. Great spots and just enough rain to make it fun.

You can see our camp in the background. My wife loved the sound of the water at night.

I didnt realize until the last day that this was just a little upstream of our camp. It is right next to another good campsite.

Wow, that looks nice. I've never camped down in Tucson. I didn't know they had spots so green.

Gotta disagree. I love camping with a trailer. Just little things like being able to wash your hands is nice. I still sleep outside on my cot occasionally. The 10-minute setup is cool too. For us it's all about being in the woods.

Up until recently neither did I. I actually found this spot with Google Maps. Since I started camping again I have been looking for spots by Googling the map of Arizona and looking for trees. (I don't like desert camping) With the satellite view you can zoom in to find roads, lakes, rivers/creeks and in a lot of cases clearings for your campsite. You can even check out photo's other people have taken of the area. And if you wan't more info on the topography there is always Google Earth which will show you the terrain.

On this trip I saw a photo someone posted of the creek and got the GPS coordinates off Google and punched them into my Tomtom. It took me right to the spot. From there I just had to find a clearing to camp in. I was pleasantly surprised to find so many campsites to choose from.

I have been having a lot of success finding new areas to camp like this. Places that I would have never found otherwise. And since I like the freedom of dispersed camping this is perfect for me.

btw, it isn't the sink that gets me with trailers. I take water for washing up and eventually will have a pump fed shower. I think it is the thought of taking all of the conveniences of home with you. Electricity, shower, flush toilet, refrigerator, microwave, tv, video games, etc. It isn't any one thing....its all of it combined. I have a friend that tells me his idea of camping is a hotel in the mountains. To me that is basically what an RV is....but that is just saying that they are not for me. Like I said, its all about what a person needs to get outdoors.

Spent the weekend at Lynx Lake in Prescott. It's a nice spot when you want to get out of town real quick, as it's only about 90 minutes away. Did some mountain biking, hiking, and a nice trail run.

Ha, I fall somewhere in between. I love having running water, a fridge, and some lights to play games at night. A heater is sometimes nice too. However, I'm usually outdoors the entire time and sometimes sleep out on my cot.

Our trailer actually doubles as our hotel room. We take it to California instead of renting a hotel when visiting the beach and amusement parks. That's when the tv, microwave, and shower comes in handy.

I'm 6'3" and looking for a rectangular sleeping bag that I don't have to mortgage my house to buy. I was thinking that it might be an option to make my own bag. I don't know how to sew but am thinking that it has to be pretty simple. Its basically just a quilt sewn together on 2 sides right?

Anyone have some insight on this?

Been trying to reserve a spot there for a while now. The tent sites are always sold out.

Not if you want 0 degree rating or etc.

Down bags can get wet and survive.

Going to Canyon Point, which is up past Payson at the top of the rim, for a week when the kids are on fall break. My boys and I are planning an overnight backpack trip at Willow Springs Lake as long as the whether agrees.

I would love to go camping, unfortunately my wife has zero interest in it, which means no camping.

She may be willing to compromise and do the RV thing though but when I think of camping I think of hiking in to an area and actually roughing it so I am not sure that would be the same.

Anyone own a Class C motorhome? If so I'd like to hear your pros/cons.

Nothing wrong with camping alone.

Not really "camping", but a couple weeks ago we took the RV trailer to Hunting Beach for spring break. Stayed in an RV park 12 feet from the beach for 5 nights. I could become a beach bum full time, no problem.

I like your camping alone idea. I've been thinking about doing a weekend trip like that up near payson. Just hike through the woods and camp near one of the lakes for a night.
