I also found where I want to camp next. There is a mesa overlooking Roosevelt Lake and the surrounding Valley. The pictures don't really do it justice.

I do....but that just says you wont freeze to death in 30 degree weather which, I didn't. I just wasnt all that comfortable.

As far as the headphones I had them on more out of habit. I dont think I used them once while I was there.

My bag may be under 30 degrees im not totally sure but I slept at apache lake a month or two ago in freezing weather and was as comfortable as can be sleeping in my hammock. It might be a 5 degree bag. I've never camped near Roosevelt, looks like a nice spot

I have a mummy style bag. Not sure what it's rated but at 30° at night I was sweating. Definitely the way to go up north. Almost froze to death my first time camping on the rim with a buddy. Made sure that wasn't going to happen again. ;)

Mine is mummy too. I used to have a real nice lightweight hiking one that balled up smaller than a volleyball but that one went to crap so now I'm using a $25 Cyber Monday Walmart bag that is great. Can't go wrong with a good bag especially now that I camp almost exclusively under the stars in a hammock, on a cot or right on the ground. Not sure why I used tents for so long

I don't like the mummy bags because I cant move around in them. I am also a giant man so funding a bag that I fit in is a PITA.

Man. For $24 I might have to take a flyer on it. Thanks.

right? I need to buy some for the kids and this brand may be it. They are big and bulky bags but im not using them for hiking and they sure do the trick otherwise.

June 3rd?

I will be here with lots of 4x4's, you are welcome to show up if you dont mind beer drinkin, gun shootin, weed smokin good times.

I gotta bring those up as there really have been instances that people were upset about each of those items. Also you will likely be the only black guy.

I am currently workung on building a solar powered generator for camping. Unfortunately the solar part will have to come later but there is no reason I cant get everything else ready and just charge it from home. At the moment my power demands are small and I wont need to charge it for weekend trips.

Here is what I have so far:
A 12v 10ah lead acid battery (the kind you use in alarm systems or a power wheel)
A 12v charger that plugs into the wall
An ammo box that is going to be the case
I just need a 12v socket (basically a cigarette lighter from a car) and the adapter you plug into it with the usb ports so I can charge my phone and use my led light and I will be ready to start assembly.

I'm kind of excited about it.

Fun. I'm going back up to the Big Lake area in July for what I hope to be 2 weeks or so.

That is where we went. Well, sort of. I wanted to get near East Fork but didn't realize the area is designated gampground only. We had to drive out of the area to set up camp.

It's a nice area. Too bad West Fork remains closed. Last couple of years we've been just south of Big Lake, outside the designated camping area.

On our way out I looked for and found some nice places near the river for next time. Plus, with the knowledge I now have of the area I can check google maps for even more places.

Is the heat wave coming to an end? It seems like it is coming to an end.

I need to get out of here so bad but even in the high country its been in the 90's or higher. I was even thinking of driving to Colorado.
