We need to get real. Virtually every talent evaluator felt this was the weakest free agent class in several years. Why? Because teams were unusually agressive with respect to re-signing/extending their own players. Most quality people felt only 3-4 players were tier one and even then there were no sure thing Pro Bowl players. Why should the Cards be drop tons of money on mediocrity? I’d like to get Moore and re-sign Hernandez and White, but that clearly wouldn’t satisfy this board. Ossenfort seems to want to get under 30 year old players if he’s signing someone for 3 years+. He has a plan and I’m willing to let him work it. So far he’s done numerous good things. I’m going to wait until the offseason is over before I draw conclusions. Many on this board seem like the guys who bet on halftime scores. That’s not me.
'He has a plan'

So far nothing is impressive about MO.

Tore down a roster while letting some good players walk and next year doesn't look promising.

Theory:
Possible the Cards arent doing any real big game hunting until they have a QB they believe in. JG and Monti got the OK from Bidwill he will be patient.

Big spending in 2026. Either Kyler is the proven guy or their new rookie QB will get lots of immediate help.

Im ok with accepting that than Monti is just this way.
Coming soon to a season near you: "2030 will be the REAL year the Cards are all in. They will be AGGRESSIVE and REALLY go after it in just 5 short years!"

Not aimed at you, @SoonerLou

Yeah, his plan is to be conservative and not spend money when there was a decent FA crop (last year) in order to keep his powder dry to pretend he was going to be aggressive in FA this year, only to snap his fingers and say, "Aw shucks, guess I shouldn't spend, then." Gimme a break. We said it over and over last year. Why couldn't we spend last year? We were assured there would be no excuses as to why they wouldn't spend this season. Guess what? Excuses, excuses, excuses.

What I am reading from you is that Monti is just not good at his job. You don't go turtle scared conservative in a good FA year and then throw your hands up and give up because it's now a bad FA year. Just plain dumb...or purposefully cheap because OWNER.

Time to let the spilled milk go. It's the past.

But people are using the excuse in the present. "Oh, we swear, we'll be all over Monti if he doesn't spend NEXT year. He has to! We'll be displeased."

Next year arrives.

"Well, you can't fault Monti for not spending this year. It's a bad FA class!"

Freaking Janus subset of posters around here.

So like what really excited you guys about kyzir white last year that makes you really want him back?

Dude is a leader sure - but performance? Meh- I don’t see the huge drop off you guys do. Maybe I’m missing something - enlighten me. I don’t see the world collapsing because of his absence - and apparently neither does the rest of the nfl with the crickets chirping on his free agency interesting

Are you kidding? That would be a great job. A trash franchise offers a lot of fun conversation, especially when you engage the fan base.
If you wrote articles with the same tone as the way we talk about the team on this website, you'd be fired.

You can’t blame people for wanting to see their team improve. It hasn’t really.

Monti came out and sold an aggressive approach to FA…and wasn’t aggressive.

The QB is meh.

Our draft picks have not yet become top players. The best players on the roster, three years in, are guys the previous GM brought in.

I struggle with these types of posts because they reek of battered fan syndrome. This is what a poverty franchise does, it replaces excitement with apathy.

He was the Cardinals 3rd best defensive player and nobody wants to use the 16 pick on an ILB.

Exactly.

Monti clearly missed out of some FA targets - Williams, Fries, Allen. That is bad because all would have improved the roster and eased the pressure of draftpicks and picking specific positions.

But now what? Overpaying for mid-level players are not the solution either IMO. Veterans on 1 year contract? Trades? Don't know.

Monti's job is to field a significantly better roster than last year. He gets help from a draft class that is strong at the team's weakest positions. He gets even more help from having the team with most 2nd and 3rd year players and we can expect a significant development from them.

I'm very skeptical right now as I feel he should have gone with two big signings. Given the money given to solid-not great DTs, Going all in on G Fries would have been my preferred option. He tried and fails. Bummer! Nice to see that the intentions were there, because it if nothing else shows that he is allowed to spend by Bidwill. But actions speak - intentions do not.

But I will not conclude anything on his off-season to build a better roster after DAY 1 of the new season. I will conclude on the full picture. Everything is speculation until.
