Here is Gulati's response to my email. Pretty canned stuff, but that's to be expected.

Mr. Ketchum:

Thanks for your email and your support of the U.S. Men’s National Team. The team battled hard and made us proud by finishing first in its group. Once the World Cup is over—as we do after every major event-- we will sit down and review the tournament and our performance. We’ll keep trying to move the ball forward after what was an exciting few games in South Africa.

Best Regards,

Sunil Gulati

Whoever Gulati ends up hiring needs to have a say in our youth development staffs as well(this was a reason Klinsmann withdrew from consideration for the job, they were unwilling to give him that power). My dream hire would be Hiddink but he just signed with Turkey next would be Advocaat but he is with Russia...Scolari is out there but not sure if he would be a fit for the US job.

Gulati had talked to Capello prior to him taking the England job about being in charge of our Development Program. I wonder what ideas he had, surely he would have brought it new blood in the scouting & cocaching ranks.

The U17 & U20 tourney's will have qualifying coming up fairly soon...the U17 tourney is in Mexico and the U20 is in Colombia both in 2011...shortly after that we should have the U23 tourney for the Olympics in London.

Neither team has looked impressive so far this half, but I think Japan is going to pull it out.

I completely disagree - goalies very rarely make saves and when they do it's more luck than anything ...... the main drama is if a player can handle the pressure and not blow the shot

japan screwed up and hit the bar - they lose

i'd rather see a golden goal situation

That could end up like that Wimbledon Tennis match. "Spain prevails in 1,282nd minute." :D

The only time I would ever like to see a game decided by something like in soccer is at the baseball all-star game. After 10 innings the teams send out 2 guys each for a home run hitting contest to decide the winner.

The US need a striker in the mold of David Villa. He finds a way of getting the ball in the net. The Portugal goalkeeper was under pressure the entire second half.

Bye bye Ronaldo. Id say he was the most disappointing superstar in this WC, but at least Ronaldo netted an assist and some goals. Rooney didn't do a damn thing.

So are you saying that Ronaldo or Rooney was the most disappointing?

Ronaldo had a couple good games, although this past one wasn't one of them.

How many touches did Ronaldo get in the 2nd half? 2? 3? Great defense by Spain in this game.

And David Villa, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, Pique, Busquets -- Barcelona is going to be fun next season!

Every single team in the world needs a striker in the mold of David Villa. ;)

And that's another missed call by the referees. Off-side goal for the win.
