Very entertaining second half..... Looks like my prediction was correct.

That final post shot by Mpehla hurt. I found myself rooting for the South Africans by the end of the game.

If France wins tonight they will be in the cat-bird seat in this group I think. Mexico will need to come back really hard if they expect to contend with France. They were dominated in the second half IMO.

RSA hit the post on a potential winning goal. Nice 2nd half by both teams. Mexico struggled with South Africa's athleticism on the counterattack.

Great second half, lackluster 1st half that should have had Mexico scoring at least twice, and that doesn't include the (correctly called) offside. Spectacular opening to the tournament, but ESPN had all sorts of problems during their prematch show.

Don't sleep on Uruguay, Diego Forlan is the best striker in the group.

IMO Mexico is a better team than France on paper right now, it'll be a matter of how they come out after today's disappointing result.

I was pleased with their work during the game though.

Their online streaming of the game that they have been pimping so much was completely down for the first game. Had to listen over the radio.

The Catalunya Kaiser!!

For as bad as we played, a tie feels pretty good right now. Gotta get rid of our 37yr old goalkeeper, start Guardado and Chicharito.

But I thought "The finishing is coming in the 2nd half. Aside from that late surge by SA, we've dominated the game. Franco just cant finish, Hernandez would've sank all 4 of those opportunities."

Did Meixco dominate or play bad?

Did it not? Rafael Marquez finished in the 2nd half.

Rafa barely touched the ball the entire game. Especially in the first half, he was like a guy without a position. It was strange.
Dominated possession, amount of shots on goal. Did you watch the game?

Definitely in the first half, it was much more even in the 2nd.

Pretty sure it wasnt an "easy" victory when it took them til extra time to beat Mexico. You're just coming off as an ignorant Mexico hater tired of seeing the US get owned by them. I dont mind the US, but i do dislike ignorant US fans. Right up there with the Lakers in terms of annoyance. If the reffings called right, Mexico should blow them out, easily.

Thats too bad for you, lorenzotexan. :-D
You know I shared your same logic in 2002 from an unbiased point of view....and what happened. All of that dominance...and as always mexico choked like normal.

I poored some gas on your hate for argentina and it looks like you exploded LOL. Actually I don't hate mexico....not in the slightest. They are who they are. They are a top 20 team...somewhere between 10-20 like the USA. But they have problems with the USA...whether they want to admit it or not...like you for one...is another story. Ducking the Azteca? the USA only get to play there every 4 years....it's not like people are in line to play friendlies there(to include the mexicans who apparantly love the USA. But the USA have plenty of victories over them in PRO MEXICO locations as well. The numbers over the last decade don't lie...but keep bringing up history that is important. You know the US beat england once before lol!

Great game (and first goal) to start the tournament.

Not sure how you lot couldn't see the offside. It was pretty clear on the replays. A great call by the assistant. Looking forward to tonight now.

I saw only the second half, got off work early to catch it. I heard about mexican domination in the first half...didn't see it so much in the second half....not a lot of great opportunites aside from the goal. a lot of possession though. Why is blanco out there? the guy is good when he can get the ball at his feet don't get me wrong, but he is gonna be a major liability when mexico faces a tougher opponent.

All in all I said previously South Africa would be a tough match for mexico and it played out that way. Mexico is fortunate to get a point, and based on what I hear of the first half so is SA. but all in all this was a win for SA and a negative result for mexico who lost to a team that they should beat. Mexico better find a way to score some goals...or they might not make it out of the the group. South Africa is a contender to make it out of the group with everything on their side and a decent squad.

A lot of people don't understand the rule. It's pretty much known as "there must be a defender between the goal and the attacker." But they forget that the actual rule is pretty much that 2 players must be between the goal and the attacker--the keeper and a defender. When Khune moved forward to punch the ball, Pienaar became the "keeper", and there was no "defender" between him and Carlos Vela. So in essence, instead of 2 defenders, there was only 1, hence the offside call. Great, great call.

He was center mid rather than center back, which is his normal position. He had a couple good passes, don't know how you missed it.

SA had a nice little run in the 2nd half where they just kept the all in the area. Seemed like Mexico just could not clear it. A lot of it has to do with starting a 5'7, 37yr old goal keeper.

Missed a couple good passes? Yeah, in 90 minutes. The guy is the former captain of the squad and a member of the best club team in the world. "A couple good passes" does not a good game make. I'll give him credit for his positioning on the goal, but he didn't control anything as a center mid, which is what he should have been doing. I thought Gio, Franco, Guardado and Aguilar were all better.

Oh, and he was playing a lot of center back in the 1st half.

Rafa got us the tie. He could've had a poopy game, tie makes up for it.

Of course, scoring the goal more than makes up for it. I just think he could have and should have controlled the team more. Maybe giving up the captaincy has something to do with it, but he's still one of the best players on the pitch, but didn't act like one.

Don't get me wrong though, his club team is my favorite team in the world, so I'm going to be overly critical of him because I have high expectations for him.
