I am surprised by how withdrawn Forlan is playing. It seems Uruguay is more interested in playing the ball in the midfield without much effort to get it forward. France is looking more dangerous and you have to figure Henry comes in after 65 minutes or so and he is still capable of magic especially running at what could be tired defenders.

Especially since Henry is allowed to play with 4 limbs instead of the two everyone else is limited to!!!!

Interesting what you say about Forlan, but nobody has said anything about Ribery, who has been awful.

Two sides playing not to lose in stead of to win. Both South Africa and Mexico, although not always pretty, at least played with the intention to win. I hope they both advance. Good intentions should be rewarded.

I disagree, at least in the last 10 minutes. France was definitely trying to score, but Uruguay's defense was top-notch.

Sounds like the stadium is being attacked by killer bees.
I'm picturing a happy smiling and dancing african with big shiny teeth and a vuzuzuvuvuvelalala, unfortunate enough to get tickets right behind a group of Vinnie Jones-like, drunk and irritated British hooligans. ;)

It's easy to look good against ten men. Uruguay doing even less, with every captured ball blindly blasted away in order to get into position again.

France's offense was so predictable and poor, every defense would have looked top-notch.

Hmm, and Dutch fans don't have any bias towards France, do they? ;)

Um, that's what you're supposed to do when there is 10 minutes left and you're down a man.

Come on now, you're bias is painfully showing here. France's offense was poor, but that is no reason to discount Uruguay's defense. Part of the reason France's offense was poor was because of Uruguay's defense. France got NOTHING in the box the entire game.

Actually, we don't. There's not a lot of history between our two nations, unless you count the days of Napoleon, but that brought us more good than bad. They've eliminated us once, 1996, but that tournament was so terrible from our part, there are no hard feelings about that.

Um, that's what you're supposed to do when there is 10 minutes left and you're down a man.
And that's why France looked better. They still played terrible offense, all balls through the crowded center of the field, but since they got every ball back right away it appeared to be ok.

If you play a team like Uruguay, a team that likes to retreat and plays with a very tight defensie, that keeps the spaces small, then playing Anelka, who's only strong point is playing in space, is not the smart way to go. On top of that, Domenech had him playing on an island for most of the game with virtually no penetration from the midfield or attacks from the sides. That's playing into Uruguay's strong point in stead of attacking them on their weak side. This France can do so much better, but it's almost like they refused to.

And as for Uruguay, i don't mind if a team plays defense first. As long as you play to win. Their only objective tonight was to not get any goals against. When the ball was played forward, it was up to Suarez and Forlan to do something with it. Nobody came along to help, no midfielders joining them upfront. Ugly.

Especially in this situation, where the first game in the group ended in a draw and a difference could've been made by winning, without the risk of falling behind in case it didn't work, since the second place would still be very much in range, i expect more out of a team that wants to win.

Both South-Africa and Mexico, although not always good, played to win. Like it should be done in my book.

That game was a snoozer.... I hate it when teams seem to be playing for a draw in the first half.

Zeno.... Didn't get to see much of Forlan.... Uruguay really disappointed me with their defensive mindset.

Oh... and I think France will beat Mexico.

Curious... why do you think Mexico will beat France?

He said France would beat Mexico.

France's defense is solid, if Mexico wants to beat the French, they're going to have to start Hernandez. Uruguays midfield sucks. Im confident Mexico can clinch a win against either one of them.

This...

Plus France historically starts very slow. I expect them to play a much more complete game against their biggest competition for the #1 seed in the group.

I think Henry will be playing from the beginning from now on as well.

As a Mexico fan, im just glad we don't have to face that homefield advantage anymore. After seeing them perform well under significantly large crowds in Wembley, Netherlands and Italy, I really thought we would be fine. Those vuvuzuelas probably annoyed the hell out of the players too.

Hopefully this means the end of Conejo Perez as the starting keeper. Any keeper over 6'0 would've at least put a hand on South Africas shot.

After watching every team in that group I have to believe every one of those teams has a chance to advance. Mexico's back line isn't built to handle guys with speed but it doesn't appear France or Uruguay has much in the way of world class speed. I do think both defenses can handle Mexico's offense.

I have to question Uruguays coach's decision to play Forlan in such a withdrawn role, he was playing like a holding midfielder at times and was rarely ever able to play off of Suarez.

I am not sure about Domenech either, some of his thinking is really out there. Anelka looks to be the type of forward who needs a partner up top to work off of and instead of doing that he takes him out for Henry.

No keeper in the world would have stopped that shot.

You must be registered for see images attach

Maybe im just upset bc I didnt want that guy starting in the first place. That shot was a freaking rocket though.

France is a mess. There are players (probably most of them) who hate Domenech and a lot of animosity between the players themselves. (Ive read that some teammates wont even talk to Gallas)

France's midfield is nothing Mexico can't handle. I do agree with what you said, this group is wide open as of now. Next series of games should decide the winners.

It'd be cool if the US got the huge upset, but i just don't see it happening. 3-1 England.
