 Hope Okefor and Hartwell don't leave. I just doubt we will sign Hartwell though, he will want the big bucks.

Didn't we pass on Okeafor two years ago because our docs thought that he had a degenerative knee condition? WTF?

That was also 16 1/2 sacks ago and we had the Mac administration running things.I would personally go harder after Hartwell at the expense of Okeafor. It would be nice to get both though.

Yup, Hartwell could make for the lack of an elite two gap DT, so he would be my 1st priority.

I really don't understand why we are pursuing Okeafor, since he's a pure rush end and we already got Berry at RE with Pace as a capable back-up (IMO).
The only reason for this (and stop me if this is crazy) could be that Barry is a complete DE meaning that on top of his elite pass-rushing skills he's also a very good run defender for a DE. Maybe they are planning to switch him to the LE spot with Kenny King backing him up, while we bringing in Okeafor to compete with Pace for the starting RE spot.

Hartwell would be a nice upgrade in the middle, and Okeafor is better than Zellner. But if I had to choose, I would take Hartwell. I tought Hayes was the annnointed one for the MLB slot. MAybe the cards have cooled on this idea. The remaining positions to fill are:

Cb, Qb, TE, G, DE, LB?

I would like to see Vincent in here. Sounds like Mili is a done deal at TE. If we get Okeafor and Hartwell, that leaves Qb, ans CB. Arguably the two most pressing needs we have..

$$$. For the price of Hartwell we could get Mili and Okeafor... 2 nice guys to have, and leave some bucks on a CB we need. I think a real plugger at Mlb would be great but that could cost us a CB like Dyson, Smoot or Rolle.

It would be nice to know if we are pursuing a CB now that Starks is gone. When we traded Aneaus (sp) we thought we could draft his replacement and ended up getting Stone instead of Smoot. That didn't work out so well. It would be nice to have a vet to count on... and we will still have to draft a nicklel CB.

Both Hartwell and Hayes can play inside or outside and could both wind up playing along side one another with Dansby the third guy.

You suggested that one should - "(stop me if this is crazy)".

Well, for your info - Okeafor plays LDE. :D

Ok. I will. :)

The Cards did not play their d-line straight up ALL year. Pendergast moved those guys around a lot. Berry did not take all of his snaps at RDE. Sometimes, they were play "strong/weak" sides. When Pace and Berry were on the field at the same time, about half the time Berry was over the RT, the other half, Pace was.

Okeafor will help this team a LOT. He was the only player who stood out to me on the Seahawks D last year.

Okeafor would be used as a pass rush specialist. Playing only on obvious passing downs.

We don't have one of these that has been effective.

Also, our de's line up based on the other teams o-line. Weak side, strong side rather than left side, right side.

On Okeafer:

He is actually slightly bigger then Zellner, slighly better run defender becuase he makes more plays in the back field and line of scrimmage, but mostly he is a huge upgrade in the pass rush department compared to Zellner.

Zellner may not be re-signed if Okeafer is brought in with King being Okeafers backups.

If we bring in Okeafor, I think we'll re-sign Zellner and let Vanden Bosche go. We'd have good depth at the position for once instead of moderate-to-no depth.

Yeah, I think that is what will happen too.

KVB is already a FA as is Zellner. There is already reports that Zellner will be resigned. I don't believe KVB will be brought back. He can get more money from a different team if he stays healthy. I agree we have better depth now than we have had for sometime. Okeafor is not a bad pick up and would give us more upside than Zellner.

I'm all over Hartwell and Okeafor. Our front 7 will become MUCH more dominant with those two in the fold. If Green or Pendergast still has a place in the starting lineup for Hayes, put him at WLB; have him compete there to start, or rotate him and Darling and let the best man win the job.

But here is the thing, how much depth do you need, you cant carry 6 DE's on the roster.

Okeafer - King - Antonio Smith

Berry - Okeafer - Pace

Where does Zellner fit without cutting King or Antonio Smith?

You cut Pace. Zellner's more productive. Zellner's more of a complete player, and he can actually tackle, protect his linebackers, and hold up against the run without getting buried.

Pace - 4 sacks in limited action, 0 tackles for loss, 10 Tackles.

Zellner - 2 sacks in a starting role, 0 tackles for loss, 22 Tackles.

And give up on Pace already?

vince56,

Way way too early to give up on Pace. Give him a little time.....he's just entering his 3rd yr.

No way we give up on a first round pick who showed flashes like Pace for a journeyman like Peppi. I like Peppi, but Calvin could be an above average starter in the league. Peppi is limited to an average starter.
