what a huge buzzkill losing two top defensive players in the first quarter, unbelievable.

This is going to really sting if Sutton is out for multiple games

I wonder if it will matter at all... Can/will ASU stop Oregon's rushing offense and force them to have to throw the ball??

I still believe it will come down to limiting Oregon's possessions... I think I heard a stat recently that said Oregon typically averages 15-18 possessions per game... I think if ASU can keep Oregon in the range of 12-14 possessions, their chances will increase dramatically!
In order to do that, they will have to be able to move the ball and sustain drives on a very tough Oregon defense... AND, ASU will have to convert the majority of their drives into TD's - no field goals and no punts!! If ASU is kicking the ball at all after a stalled possession, it will lead to their demise...

Wow... Oregon with 330 yards RUSHING in the first half, to ASU's 130 yards of TOTAL offense.
No, ASU can't stop Oregon's russhing offense... and Yes, Oregon's defense is as good as advertised... :(

its painful....the fact that all local sports radio had been PUMPING this game all week, and to see the Devils fall flat on their faces on national tv is just a kick in the gut.

i was HOPING we would make this a respectable game, and possibly eek out a win.....but in all honesty i was expecting this.

the opening fumble and subsequent TD to start the game was GREAT. watching the ducks strike right back was bad enough, but seeing them go for a 2pt just made me realize we woke them up. the game was essentially theirs after that.

Great D. by Oregon.

I like to think though that our D wouldn't have been swiss cheese had our best player, Sutton, and Junior O. not been knocked out in the first quarter.

Bad night by Kelly too. 2 int's, i a pic 6, the other returned to the 3 yard line. That's 14 points handed away right there.

And 2 fails in the red zone, and the missed FG, another 17.

But this game was over when Sutton went out.

Maybe I'm old fashion but I did not like the blackout with the Sun Devils playing in black uniforms. If ASU is going to play a big game at home, I want them playing in maroon and gold.

Got back from the game.

Bad loss to Oregon. We are tied with USC for first place.

Once Sutton went down we had no chance. There is no depth on the defensive line.

That was violent and pornographic.

2012 ASU is not > than 2011 ASU in talent on the field. It might actually be < than 2011 ASU. Long ways to go.

Just read this thread. Glad ASU ASFNer's expectations were tempered compared to other delusional Sun Devil fans who felt they would make a statement. :thud:

Foremost, Oregon is legit. National Championship legit. They can score on any defense, including those from the SEC.

Additionally, ASU was not battle tested up until last night. Combined opponent record of 11-22 including playing four backup QBs (the two starters are not much better). Ill-prepared to face that group of athletes.

Still not buying that.

Aside from Bama, do you see any other team posing a legit threat to Oregon?
As for Bama, their defense might have a shot at slowing down Oregon's offense, but, they won't totally stop them.
And I don't believe Bama has enough offense, as well as I believe Oregon's defense is legit and would contain Bama's offense far more than Bama's defense would contain Oregon's offense...

It would be a great game. Bama hasnt seen a team as athletic as Oregon and Oregon hasnt seen a team as physical as Bama.

But I would give the edge to the team with more speed and athleticism. Oregon's offensive personnel can literally outrun every team in the NCAA. In addition, the offense is just as face and can cause major match up difficulties.

I don't disagree. ASU is VERY thin this year. When Sutton went down and with Pennell suspended ASU was playing 3rd and 4th stringers at DT all last night. We had DE's playing DT...what a mess. They had a few guys in the game, even in the first half, that were so far down on the depth chart that they weren't in my program!

It makes sense why Graham went so JC heavy in his first recruiting class.

I think for the most part ASUs skill players are in the top half, or even top 3rd of the Pac-12.

Unfortunately, Erickson did such a horrible job of recruiting on both the offensive and defensive lines. The thing that makes that even more cruel is the line talent (both sides of the ball) coming out of Arizona the past few years is probably the best its ever been. Heck, 2 of Oregons starting Defensive lineman are Valley products.

Hopefully Graham can turn the local recruiting around, especially in the trenches. Its going to take a while before ASU can build the depth it needs to compete with the Oregons of the world.

Luckily, I think there's still a chance ASU could go 8-4 this year, which if you told us that before the year we'd be thrilled. It'll be interesting to see how the team reacts after this stampeding, an Erickson team would spiral and collapse, lets hope thats not the case anymore.

Alabama thumps Oregon by 30 points. Mark it. Alabama's defense is as fast as Oregon offense. When Alabama shuts down the running game, what does Oregon do? Throw interceptions? I think so.

Oregon is unbalanced. I can't think of another offense that is so specifically geared to getting shut down by Alabama's defense. You beat Bama with balance. Oregon doesn't have it.
