it's significantly worse at NFL games which is a huge part of the reason I no longer have Cards tickets and have UA tickets now that I have a kid and want to take her to games (now I just have to figure out how to make time to go). Two biggest reasons...

1. No alcohol. I'd be willing to get Cards tickets again if they cut off alcohol sales within the stadium. Will never happen of course. I'll still go a game or two but will aim to get club level and avoid the nonsense.

2. Majority of a college game attendees are alumni of said school. And for those of us passionate abut our Alma mater we know its important to represent well. I've gone to many games in Tempe in Wildcat red and I can tell you it was either dumb drunk students who I'll forgive for being 19 or people who clearly never attended ASU that acted in poor taste. I've noticed it's similar demographic in Tucson, LA, Iowa, and other road games as well.

You know that's why we eventually got club seats. I'm not saying just the price of the ticket has anything to do with it but we have had them for about four years and we have never seen anything like we saw in the regular seats.

Not just the fighting part but there isn't the vulgarity and crassness in those areas. It might be because there is more security for smaller amounts of people or maybe you just don't get those drunken opposing teams fans who spend all their money to get a couple of tickets to see their favorite team.

Just way more civil like it should be.

Once I sat down all the Saints fans started singing the "who Dat" song. Near the end of the song I stood up and acknowledged them. Congratulated them on the win and wished them good luck in the playoffs.

Classy move by a classy guy. Well done.

I personally love sitting in the crowd hate club seats , but I completely understand if I had a family I would never bring my kids to a game. The idiots do really make it tough to enjoy the experience sometimes. I have no issue with people drinking they are old enough to make that choice, but I think some people need to remember they are in a public place and you should act accordingly. I'm there to watch the game, I'm not there to see who can be the biggest drunk moron at the game

When I had tickets in SDS I had them in the "no alcohol" sections, which were #3 and #9 on the lower level. Plus, it was always fun to get enemy fans kicked out of the section who were clueless that they had bought tickets in a "no alcohol" section. But, at UofP, it's almost 100% calmer and better than SDS for Cards fans. Yes, there have been many complaints on here about security in the past (personally, I have never been asked to sit or anything else) but it is WAY WAY better than the zoo that was SDS. I'll never forget a Steelers game there that was so violent I actually felt a twinge of fear for the first time EVER, and never SINCE, at a sporting event.

Right on. There's more pressure from alumni and accountability to the school, and it applies to both home and visiting fans--who are generally in a visiting section. No on-premises alcohol for sale helps, since being publicly intoxicated is easier to spot, plus those who head for a refill at halftime often don't make it back (if you are even allowed re-entry). I've seen lots of arguments and fights at ASU-UA games especially, but the NFL experience always seemed nastier.

I think another factor is the bandwagon NFL fan who is using their team is an excuse to gloat and intimidate. It can happen in college, too, but I think they just get exposed a lot sooner for having no real connection to the team. And maybe they are less likely to walk into a college stadium and act like they own the place.

When we get our own season tickets again, I can definitely see moving to the club level now that we have a child.

I've been to games in Philly and in Dallas (both the old stadiums) multiple times. Never really had a problem. Once had a drunken fool in the 700 levelat Veteran's Stadium trash talk me the whole game. He was a jerk and your stereotypical idiot Eagles fan. I ignored him as best I could. The Dallas fans were actually pretty cool. Just had some trash talkers to deal with as I walked down the steps in my section.

I usually wear my Pat Tillman jersey to opposing stadiums. I find it's usually more difficult for people to throw insults or punches my way in that case.

A lot of people with no spine complaining about alcohol. It really isn't that bad - it really isn't. Maybe you should be spending your Sundays at the Mormon temple if you want to be surrounded by the holier than thou who "represent well."

Yeah Mao, let's make it like a U of A game where a bunch of sober old fuddies are constantly yelling at people to sit down.

Agree with this take, and I know I have probably been that guy a time or two. That being said, my buddy who I have season tickets with does not bring his son after preseason. Once he gets a few years older, that will probably change.

We have talked about getting club seats, but frankly we just want them to get into club level pre-game. I also prefer sitting in the crowd.

you know what's strange to me? I drink... sometimes A LOT, but I don't think I've ever had ONE beer at a Cardinals game in my life. I feel like it would both dull the senses... or make me even more out of control then I usually am sober at the games.

The game is the ultimate drug for me for three hours when I step in that stadium.

Definitely depends on the section. We have 8 seats in section 9 and I take at least four kids to every game and have never experienced one problem.

I would like to be like that. Most of my drinking is done tailgating, because we usually go all out on whatever food or cocktails we have come up with for the day. Last week we did shrimp and chicken skewers and my brother (who is a "mixologist" lol) came up with a rum drink called a painkiller that went too well with the bbq selection.

a painkiller... ha. good name.

the only time I can ever remember drinking before the game was tailgaiting for the NFC Title game and the Super Bowl... and we drank A LOT (this is a theme), but because of the ridiculous adrenaline coursing through my veins, I was still completely sober come game time and never had a drink once inside. It's weird what football does to me.

the one time I got SMASHED at a sporting event was Suns-Lakers back in 1996 on Turkey Day weekend. I ended up getting into a fight with some old lady (who was a total bitch and besmirched the good name of my friend next to me who was doing nothing wrong while I was being VERY vociferous in my attack on everyone around me for being a fairweather fan and not cheering). Then proceeded to try and push her son down the stairs. Got kicked out of the game with about a minute left and the Suns down 11. Then got into ANOTHER fight in the parking lot (long story... wasn't totally my fault, where I ended up getting the ever-living snot kicked out of me by a tree-trunk of a man and ended up with a broken vertebrae in my neck and 16 stitches in my head.

and then finally got home at 6 in the morning to find out the Suns pulled off the greatest comeback of all time, erasing an 11 point deficit in the finale 1:20 and won on a Finley 3 ball at the buzzer.

Come to think of it... that's probably why I don't drink at games.

Remove illegal aliens from the games

lol... yeah, because illegal aliens a) all have the money to pony up for hundreds of dollars every sunday based on the enormous wealth they're making working low wage jobs/getting from welfare and b) the illegals are are drunken rapists.

I agree Cheese... However, I am always amazed how people seemingly are able to come up with the $$ to purchase tix (lower level mind you), as well as spend God knows how much more on alcohol before and during the game! I try hard not to judge people, but in all seriousness, so many of these folks give the appearance that they are not exactly swimming in cash... yet, there they are. Each home game. Drunk off their arses as they walk into the stadium, and then ordering beer after beer after beer during the game. Crazy...

That's exactly what I was going to say.

It is a wise man acknowledges it, but does something about it.

funny thing is it's probably (or most likely absolutely/subconsciously) the reason I don't do it, but I never put two and two together until today.

but maybe not... neither Ouchie or Brother-Not-Ouchie drink at games either. Games have always been more of a family function then anything else... and our family needs no lubricant to get insane at games. That has something to do with it also as the game I got smashed at was with one of my high school friends who I used to regularly get annihilated with.

I never drink at the games. I notice when there is an incident security has a tendency to show the drunks to the door while leaving the non-drinkers alone.

I've seen so much go on at sporting events I just prefer to have my wits about me at all times.

You can see the best in people at sporting events but you can also see the very worst in people too.

I know I have never had a drink at any cards games and have been to hundreds. I am a great designated driver....
