Jimmy G passed his physical and is cleared to begin practice but the 49ers are holding him out because they want to make sure he doesn't get injured before they can trade him.

Also reports they don't want to put any more pressure on Lance by having people compare the 2 if Jimmy was actually working out in camp

Is that even allowed? Disallowing a player under contract from any activities? I mean, won't they have to let him suit up, warm up, then just sit on the side?

Why wouldn’t it be allowed? I’ve been on contract where I was told “change in plans; we are obligated to pay you (per contract), but we won’t require your services right now. Hangout by the pool and enjoy (whatever location I was in).”

So late in the game to be shopping him.

Back in the spring the Panthers cleared cap space then Garoppolo failed a physical and needed surgery.

It is wait to a team with no real backup has a starter incur a season ending injury for a trade to happen.

Unless a contender loses their starter Jimmy G will be cut IMO. Probably waits for an injury before signing anywhere.

There are a couple of teams that could use him. The biggest happens to be the Seahawks, so I don't see that happening. They'll make a trade too ensure he doesn't end up there.

Atlanta
Houston
Pittsburgh
Saints
Giants

He compete to start for all of those teams and guaranteed to start on 3 of them.

He's not going to Pittsburgh.

So he's going to Pittsburgh! That's settled!!
Ha! :D

No, they signed Trubisky, they still (supposedly) like Rudolph, and they drafted Pickett in the 1st, although he's currently 3rd on the depth chart. They also drafted a late-round camp body. They're not giving up draft capital for Jimmy G.

You're right, but IMHO, he's better than all of them and would start over any of them.

If they did a Rudolph for Jimmy straight up, the money is pretty darn close. SF gets a back ang Pittsburgh gets two hungry QBs to battle it out. Jimmy is a FA after this season too

But I think the best place would be NY. Straight up got Daniel Jones if SF eats $6 million. Jones would be a decent backup. If SF has to release him, I think Seattle swoops him up.

Greg Cosell did some study of Jones and said he's still somewhat confident Jones has the tools to succeed if the right parts are around him. It was on some Giants site that came across my feed. Then all the comments from Giants fans were what it would take to get Jimmy G, he's not great but he's better than Jones.

I think I heard Jimmy G has a giant cap hit this season. The money in a cash sense would be close, but not the cap hit.
