Most players cheated. Mays took greenies and Mantle injected hormones. Aaron said he tried amphetamines when they were getting popular but didn't like it. If a player today said they only took something once they'd get killed for it. The older players always get the benefit of the doubt.

Also I don't even consider it cheating since baseball knew what was happening and looked the other way until Canseco exposed everyone. If you're not enforcing the rules you're actually promoting them to break it.

That's a great point!

The year of rest did him good.

You don't think he is being tested?

Hank Aaron hit 40 at the same age. So you saying Aaron cheated as well?

Keep in mind that Arod has NEVER actually tested positive! So yea, I have no doubt he's being tested at present. Big deal. He has been and still is at the cutting edge of PED's. Don't forget, they are designed with the specific purpose of NOT being detected.

Well, he's good looking ;)

One - just the climb up the charts.

Two - I have followed A-Rod since he was part of the Mariners dynamic trio of A-Rod, Griffey and Big Unit (my sister lives in Seattle, we would go to games).

Three - I'm enjoying the discomfort that many feel - yes, he cheated, but so did over 50% of MLB, and MLB knew about it and turned a blind-eye, as long as they benefited from it.

MLB tried to make reminders from the Steroid Era go away, but A-Rod lives on, a burr under the saddle of the MLB hypocrites.

He spent a year with Barroid, probably tracking down all the untraceable stuff Bonds had left over. If Aaron had been caught, repeatedly, like A-Rod, then yes, I would have assumed he was cheating, but there was never any indication Aaron was, while A-Rod has admitted to juicing all the way back to 2001.

I view A-Rod as a step slimier than the other juicers. You're right that the league was hypocritical for a long time, turning a blind eye and reaping the rewards. But they've gone hard on testing, IMO the vast majority of players quit using (look no further than the dramatic drop in scoring), but A-Rod kept right on juicing for years.

And the guy is just a creep anyway. Trying to get groupies numbers in the stands when he is still in the game, his pathetic glove slap in the 2004 playoffs, kissing himself in the mirror. He is repugnant.

I already stated my thoughts on the steroid era guys in the Rose thread. I'd let them in the Hall, its something the league essentially condoned for a long time and a lot of guys who probably did nothing are stuck under the umbrella of ones who did. But A-Rod and the guys who have been caught recently are a different case. The league gave them a ton of forewarning, a couple years of "we're testing, no one is getting punished yet but you better stop soon". A-Rod kept right on juicing.

Greenies and amphetamines are the same thing. They help with fatigue, nothing more. The do not enhance abilities. Aaron at his height was a 185/190 pound player; the same weight as Bonds before he went on the juice.

If you don't think they enhance ability then you're in denial.

haha. Dude literally thinks pharmaceutical grade amphetamine the same thing as caffeine.

Beanies, greenies have been around sport since the 1950's. I leave it to you, Doctor, to explain how they can be viewed in the same light as anabolic steroids or HGH as a performance enhancing drug.

Why aren't they around the sport anymore?

MLB turned a blind eye to steroids because the long ball brought eyeballs and butts back to baseball after the strike.

To deny anyone from the HOF because of this, while allowing other forms of PEDs in the past to be swept under the rug is hypocritical.

And the writers are just of guilty.

So amphetamines are banned by four major sports and the olympics because of aggression? I've never seen denial to this extent.

Don't be obtuse. It's one of the byproducts of the use of amphetamines. It's a stimulant, there is no doubt, with some relatively serious side effects for those who abuse. But, it was certainly not illegal in its heyday back in the sixties and seventies. There was a bowl full in many dressing rooms back in the day. In College it was the drug most used when cramming for exams, it was as easy a snap to get a prescription. If you are attempting to draw a direct link with performance comparable to HGH and steroids, you are way off.

Barry Bonds added 40 pounds of muscle using steroids mid-career, he wouldn't have gained an ounce of muscle using amphetamines. He's the only baseball player, only human, I know whose hand-eye coordination actually improved with age. Comparing this with guys who may have used a stimulant to, for the most part, deal with fatigue of playing day-in-day-out is a bit much.

I'm not arguing that amphetamines are the same as steroids. I'm arguing that it's still a PED (well not even arguing because it's a fact).
