Well, the eulogizing is for the character McNair displayed on the field, and since most of the quotes are coming from teammates and fellow players, this is what's being highlighted. But the law defines murder as truly exceptional, and that's how I view it here. He clearly contributed to their conflict, but killing is so exceptional that one must tread lightly. I suppose the real question is whether a court would deem this murder 2 or voluntary manslaughter (assuming she killed him, and that it was during a conflict). The origin and possession of the gun is pretty crucial.

And yes, along with the armchair forensics experts in this thread, I got my law degree from novels and television.

Well, it's almost done and figured out... Kazemi's nephew said she recently purchased a gun. No information on whether or not it's the same gun used yet, but it seems likely.

Still doesn't prove anything... yet.

This is what's been running thru my head -

1. We may think we know, but we don't really know - at least not yet.

2. Reports are that his wife was unaware of Steve's current philandering.

3. The girl was only 20 (making it pretty unlikely this was a long-term relationship)

4. Whose gun was it?

5. Where'd the gun come from? (Steve had a permit for a hand gun. The apparent murder weapon was a semi-automatic. I don't know much about guns. Were the two guns one in the same? Or was the semi-automatic unregistered?

6. In the wake of all this is a widow (& I'm assuming at least one child without a father).

7. Part of the tragedy is that this isn't the first example of something like this ever happening. Think about it - A senator - latest in a series - meets his "soul mate" in Argentina. A rock star, said to abuse drugs, dies before his time. A former football star takes up with a 20 year old and winds up dead. When will we ever learn? (Life is so fragile).

8. That said - who are we to judge? (There for but the grace of God...) It's just so darned tragic.

Thank you. This is exactly what I've been saying all along, and I've been getting hell for it.

Not to speak for Shane, but I think he's saying that if McNair hadn't had the affair, he would be alive right now. By that reasoning, the affair contributed 100% to his death.

But really it's just a goofy statement that assigns a sort of social judgement to the victim of a random act of violence. If Kerry Collins gets killed in a home invasion tonight while he is eating milk and cookies, I suppose his being in his own home would be contributing 100% to his death?

Its looking that way...though I guess its plausible that she purchased the gun for fear of her ex; the ex shoots McNair while she is freshening up, she grabs her gun, runs out to Steve and, POW! she is shot by the ex, then he takes off...

But really it's just a statement that assigns judgment to the victim of a completely ******** decision. If Kerry Collins gets killed on his way to the store to buy milk and cookies after drinking beer all day, I suppose his being drunk and driving would be contributing 100% to his death?

I tweaked your story a bit so it's at least following the moral of this story, which is: Playing with fire, you often times get burned.

But seriously.. I can't believe how many people are just flat out missing the point.

What has been debated here, is that if he wasn't a cheating douchebag, he would in all likelihood be alive.

Lets not compare adultery with eating milk and cookies at home ok?

If you believe in karma, the point some here are trying to get across makes more sense.

And that's exactly what I've been saying is a possibility. Where were all you guys when everyone was running down my throat for not ruling out.

As I'm typing, Don Aaron of Metro Nashville Police is speaking. He said that the gun purchased by her was indeed the gun found under her body.

He says ballistics and gunshot residue research is still incomplete, and they're still not ruling anything out... just like I haven't ruled anything out.

:nono:

That's the same logic for blaming a rape victim for wearing a short skirt.

How do you know the McNairs didn't have an "arrangement" or "understanding" of sorts in their marriage? Perhaps they were seperated. You don't know.

Or how do you know that this apparently obsessed woman wouldn't have killed him anyway if he had shunned her advances in the first place? You don't know. That stuff happens on rare occassions too.

It's a safe bet that had he remained loyal to his wife and child - he would not have found himself in the apartment and at the wrong end of a gun...

Really? I'd wager that more wives murder their husbands than crazed mistresses do.

They weren't divorced... And since they weren't divorced, and since he took "many" vacations with this girl, I would he was not loyal to his wife and child...

So we have a "blindsided" wife claiming to be totally unaware of her husband's trysts, yet he takes vacations away from the wife and apparently stays out late at bars and then sleeps overnight in a condo a mere 6 miles away from his family. Something doesn't sound right.

Sounds like a perfect wife to me.:D
