I'm a real Boy Scout (even though I was a Girl Scout but they were no fun) about being prepared. Too many earthquakes. When you wake up at 6am to see your roof splitting into two pieces, and you can suddenly see the sky, it does something to your head.

Did you know you can drink your toilet tank water if you don't use those blue things? :p

Stay safe. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way!

One more thing: Cash money on hand in case the banks close and the power is out and the ATMs don't work. Yes. I am a Boy Scout.

Never was a boy scout but was a cub scout. Was tossed out for eating a brownie.

Seriously, I am from New Jersey and my wife and I have plenty of family there. Stay safe all. Praying for you.

So here it is... 0230 Saturday in Maine and I haven't slept since Thursday. My crew and I have been busting our tails to get a ship ready to sail 4 days early from the building yard to try and beat the storm. She may or may not get underway in a few hours (depending on the weather predictions), but we are very proud of our efforts to make it possible. I'll be loading ammo onboard in the next couple of hours then grabbing an early breakfast with my guys before catching some seriously overdue rack time.

Hope everyone south of us is staying dry and safe.

Good luck to you all!

The more reports I hear, the more I would advise people to prep for floods more than wind.

Just an FYI.

Also, should be a "tropical storm" by the time it hits NYC.[/quote]

I can only hope you are correct! I have never been in a hurrricane, have no idea what to expect.:(

I'm a ways inland but we're still expected to see some more flooding. My area got hit pretty hard 2 Sunday's ago with heavy rains so the ground is already more than saturated and some roads are still closed. But we're as ready as we'll ever be. I've already resigned myself that my shop vac will be working overtime as long as we have power. Anything of value in my basement is already in plastic totes or of the ground about 4 inches so water in the basement won't be a complete disaster, just the cleanup. As for supplies, I'm lucky enough to live in a town that's out of the way from the rest of the county so our Walmart, with the exception of C & D Batteries was pretty well stocked. Plenty of water(3 cases of 16oz bottles and case and a half of 24 oz bottles). Going to fill some ziplock bags full of water and fill the freezer up with them. This will keep the freezer and fridge cool for a few days. Heard this little trick on the weather channel. We have plenty of canned goods, bread, milk, snacks, soda. We're not in a flood area so we won't be flooded out, just water in the basement stuff. I think we're as ready as we're going to be. I hope everyone keeps safe. Be smart.

This is getting pretty dicey. 12:35 am and the strong feeder bands are just starting to push in. A tornado watch is getting ready to go up for the state which will could catch some off guard in the overnight if any drop. The Cards are on at 2am and I'm going to stay up to watch if DTV can get and keep a signal and if we keep power. I hope everyone south of me if holding up ok. Hang in there you got a few more hours. To everyone else in NY and New England hang in there we got a long way to go! I'm going to drink some beer, listen to the wind and rain and settles my nerves by watching my Cards play.

We just had the hardest rain I've ever seen out here in Bristol. It has been coming and going though the recent rains have been strong and the thunder and lightning is getting closer. I am hoping I can just sleep through this but I have the feeling I am going to be up all night. I know the main part of the storm isn't even supposed to get here until morning.

Hang in there man. It's going to get a lot worse. That thunder was crazy. It just kept rolling and had some bass to it. Pretty cool what heavy rain and wind does to the acoustics of the thunder. Never heard thunder sound like that before. I hope you can get some sleep. At least when you go home next week you can share your hurricane experience with friends and family!

No loss of power here...yet.

Went to bed at 11pm, got woken (is that a word? BIM?) up at 1:15am by a cop driving through town suggesting evacuation due to rising water. So I got up, checked our basement, and spent the next 8 hrs wet-vac-ing up water out of our access pit (while the sump pump did triple time) & hauling upstairs to dump out the door. Then running back down to do it again. Sweet Jesus my back hurts!

But no water came up above the top of the pit...yet. :(

It's just drizzling here now, so I think the worst of it has past. But man, I never want to go thru another night like that again. I will be calling a plumber this week & discussing a 2nd sump pump for the access pit.

Same here. We still have power but there is HEAVY rain....steady winds in the 20"s with occasional gusts above that. Thank goodness they have downgraded it, so things should get better!

Irene is moving away. It's weakening and I thought I made it through without losing power. Close to 50% of CT is without power. 85% of my town was without power. I was one if the 15%...until 10 minutes ago, on top of that i have three big trees that i need to cut down in my yard due to damage. Told to expect to be without power for at least a week. Close to 600k in CT without power, widespread property damage, potentially historic flooding inland and record storm surge on the coast. I think it's safe to say CT just got its ass handed to it. Hope you all made it through ok. I'm just thankful my family and friends are safe. See you in a few weeks.

Kind of a joke here in the city. Bore-i-cane.

Yeah the media got caught up in their fascination with an apocalyptic event for NYC and neglected everyone else. NC and the mid Atlantic got hit hard, but CT and RI took the brunt of this. There is widespread damage and millions of peoples lives will be severely disrupted for at least the next two weeks, but all you'll hear about is NYC.

Be thankful it was boring.

No kidding. 1 death, 3 missing, 25 homes completely destroyed, 754,000 without power and quite possibly the worst storm surge flooding since the Great Hurricane of 1938 in CT alone. I'm very glad to hear you are all ok and safe. I hope azcardsfan made it through ok Bristol is under water.

Everything is good out here. My apartment doesn't look like it took any damage. Bunch of branches down but I didn't see any trees on my block. There is a ton of flooding and I saw some powerlines and trees down on my way to work. Took me nearly an hour for what should have been a 10 minute drive. When I left (around 3pm) I still had power so hopefully that is the case when I get home.

So happy to hear everyone is OK, myself included. I had a difficult time with the storm. No need to dwell on the details, because I feel very blessed to be back home tonight.

Now let's go and kick some major arse! Go Cardinals!

Love to y'all,

Mitch
