Chris Henry in very serious condition after crash in Charlotte. Just saw it in passing on ESPN on the TV, no links on websites yet. Awful news for someone who by all accounts is making good on his 2nd chance (or 3rd I forget).

Chris Henry is on life support
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on December 16, 2009 7:07 PM ET

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer has confirmed with the Bengals and Charlotte police that wide receiver Chris Henry is still alive following a serious car accident Wednesday.

Still, the news surrounding Henry is not good.

Alex Marvez of Fox has reported that Henry is on life support and the situation is being described as "dire."

A fake Twitter account led to multiple outlets from newspapers to major sports and news blogs to repeat the information that Henry passed away.

The fake account purported to be by a NFL reporter, but it clearly is a fake.

We previously passed along reports that Henry's injuries were "life-threatening" and came after a "domestic situation."

Very sad. Too bad the kid was blessed with such physical gifts, but had no sense. Hopefully he pulls through.

As for any who are in trouble, I would ask those of you prone to prayer, to join me and my family in asking God's intervention and assistance to him and his family.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry died Thursday, one day after suffering injures in a fall from the back of a pickup truck, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said. He was 26.
Police on Wednesday described the incident as a domestic dispute with his fiancée. Henry was found in the road about eight miles north of downtown Charlotte.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

My prayers go out to his family, friends, teammates and coaches.

He was a young man with three kids, a promising NFL career, and starting to turn his life around. He gets in an accident and the entire football world gathers in prayer. He dies a couple hours later leaving three kids and a mother without their primary source of income and will probably wind up in poverty. Not much justice in the world.

The whole thing is very sad, but I bet there's plenty in his bank account that they can live comfortably (not lavishly) for quite awhile if she's smart about it.

R.I.P. Chris Henry. Way too young to die.

In theory, yes. It isn't easy transitioning from life with a football paycheck to life without, 78% of football players file for bankruptcy a couple years after retirement. Not to mention bills, funeral fees, taxes, etc. will take a massive chunk out of the bank. It's going to be a struggle for them from here on out.

This sucks. Watching hard knocks this year I was really pulling for this kid to get himself together. Seems like football was the only thing keeping him from going over the edge. It's a shame. RIP
