One has a track record of producing championships and D'Antoni's does not. Also, look at how many players the Suns went through before and after Raja. Raja was a rare bird that could play on both ends. The problem with D'Antoni's system is you have to assume those players are a dime a dozen and that you can get your hands on them.

D'Antoni proved time and time again both here and in New York that when push comes to shove...he picks offense. Good luck with that Lakers.

I think someone mentioned it earlier. What kind of power does D'Antoni have? If they can prevent him from strip mining this roster that can only help.

I agree with much of the above especially the text in bold. DA can be his his own worst enemy. He needs a strong GM to control player personnel moves. I still think a championship can be won with his system, however, until it is done there will be a difference of opinion. I will stick with my opinion that SSOL was one of the most exciting offensive schemes I have seen although the Lakers of old could really crank it up.

If Kobe has enough gas in the tank and if Howard comes all the way around to his pre-injury game, Mike will take this team to a championship. If Kobe and Dwight don't bounce back, no coach on this planet could get them to the finals.
Good point about Kobe and Howard . . . and Nash. Age of the key players and history of injuries and fatigue are important parts of the equation.

Also, a coach with a history of ten seasons in the NBA is what he has been until proven otherwise.

Regular season record ..... 388-339 ..... .534

Post-season record .......... 26-29 ....... .473

And whether his best years are the recent ones or the earlier ones. Take a look.

1998-99; Denver; Missed the playoffs
2003-04; Phoenix; Missed the playoffs
2004-05; Phoenix; Lost in Western Conference finals
2005-06; Phoenix; Lost in Western Conference finals
2006-07; Phoenix; Lost in Western Conference semifinals
2007-08; Phoenix; Lost in first round
2008-09; New York; Missed the playoffs
2009-10; New York; Missed the playoffs
2010-11; New York; Lost in first round
2011-12; New York; Steps down during the season

I don't understand how everyone says that the Lakers will be a good team defensively simply because they have good defensive players.

Then why weren't they a good defensive team under Mike Brown? It was the same exact roster wasn't it? If the players are so good on D, what happened under to their D under Brown? Cause offense wasn't the only problem with Potato head, defense was too.

sorry but lol Fakers

LOL. A team down to their third string PG and without a head coach, playing improvisational ball in the 8th game of the season just about beats your guys and you think it's an opportune time to laugh?

Oh, son. I'm so sorry for you. Bless your little heart.

Do we really need to deal with Spurs and Laker fans fighting with each other on a Suns board?

What else do we have to talk about? We could have a nice discussion about all those titles our beloved Suns and Cardinals have won but it would be a short conversation. I say let the Lakers fans and Spurs fans fight it out here, at least they're not tossing "scoreboard" at us.:)

Technically - this is in the "Other NBA Talk" forum, described as "Discuss anything else related to the NBA - including championship teams, etc."

I added the last bit. :D

As always the Taiwanese media has the best coverage of the Lakers coaching search.

Kobe isn't the question. It's how D12 and Pau interact, because it takes the ball out of Pau's hands making him kind of awkward in the offense

~

Pau might become more of a liability than an asset however, because when he isn't involved he tends to mentally drift.

Dantoni is on the warpath with Pau already. Benched him in the fourth against Memphis saying "What was I thinking about when I sat Pau? I was thinking I wanted to win this game, that's what I was thinking." And "Pau is what he is." (not flattering words, either). Then "If we don't have guys that want to run, then we'll go find some." Directed at Pau.

Tonight, Jamison played nearly the same minutes as Pau (and put up 19 & 15 in the process).

Writing might be on the wall.

Pau was playing terrible against Memphis so it makes sense why D'Antoni didn't want to play him in the 4th QTR.

From RealGM's feed:

Mike D'Antoni regrets not remaining with the Phoenix Suns when he decided to become the head coach of the New York Knicks.

"I shouldn't have gone to New York," said D'Antoni.

"I should have stuck in there and battled. You don't get to coach somebody like him [Nash] too many times. It's pretty sacred and you need to take care of it. I didn't."

The parting with the Suns had always been reported as mutual.

"No. It was me," D'Antoni admits now. "I initiated it and I probably shouldn't have."

The Knicks' had a plan to rebuild while pursuing cap space.

"We had a three-year plan and it was good," D'Antoni says. "There were good aspects of it. But it was better the other way [in Phoenix]."

D'Antoni became head coach of the Lakers after the team fired Mike Brown.

Was he forced out by Sarver? Appears now that he wanted to go on his own.

at that point, it felt to me anyways, that the parting of the ways was pretty mutual.

Is there any chance D'Antoni was trying to get the job with the Bulls to coach D. Rose, but he asked for too much money/the Knicks paid more than the Bulls were willing to pay?
