A quick question. If you agreed to another job, verbally-but nothing in writing, but then your old boss offers you a substantial raise and your wife says, honey, I don't really want to move. We are settled here, the kids love it, etc. Let's stay.

What would you do?

I couldn't agree with you more here. People have second thoughts, especially about moving across the country. Especially when they find out more about the job (Andrew Luck's health, anyone?). Especially when their employer gives them the wink-nod that they could have the same job where they're more comfortable.

But letting them hire assistants is pretty unpleasant.

If I had given my word to the new job that I was definitely coming I would go no matter what. I actually did that in my profession.

From what I have read McDaniels told them he had to consult family and think it over. What was actually promised Who knows?

To sign a staff BEFORE having the new HC’s signature and scheduling the press conference was really stupid on the Colts side. Just proves how bad an owner Irsay is.

Just to clarify I am not absolving McDaniels for his being a douche in this either. Both sides handled this poorly.

you tell your wife she should have brought it up before you gave your word. A man does not need paper to bind him to a deal, his word is enough.or at least...it should be.

Major Karma will come McDaniels & the Pats way after B.B. & Tom retire mark my words! It’s pretty damn sad when a mans word & handshake agreement mean nothing these days.

IF he does get the Pats HC job he will be out in no time due to losses imo.

I find it hilarious that this the 2nd time Kraft has been at the foot of this twice now.

Well since this is not your "normal" job, it a bit more complicated then that. I doubt that the substantial raise your talking about comes anywhere close to what he would have been paid as a head coach. It's one thing to agree verbally but when you start to hire a staff, IMO as a man I have signed that deal.

Patriots drama. So sick of it. Would love to see them go 7-9 next year. Pats fans are so freeking spoiled.

The Patriots under BK, BB and TB...are like the perfect storm of brilliant diligence and profitable dysfunction.

Well, Josh McDaniels is the next Head Coach of the New England Patriots.....whenever Belichek leaves that is, because he is not getting a head coaching job anywhere else.

Cannot believe some wanted this guy here in AZ. Tiger doesn't change his stripes.

Never say never, his boss did it and he got another job. I don't see JM getting the head job when BB leaves, things change fast in the NFL. Heck BB might be fired and his whole staff too. Some of NEP's front office people move up to be GMs they might be interested in him.

I totally agree Mitch & that’s exactly why most NFL fans that aren’t Pats fans have a strong dislike for them & I believe this will add to that!

At least McDaniels agent has some class & no longer represents his sorry ass. Josh reminds me of Lane Kiffin & Bobby Petrino rolled into one. Moves like this can be almost career suicide at the NFL level. I highly doubt he ever gets another HC gig outside of possibly the Pats. He took a pee in his bed now has to lay in it

His agent also represents Ballard, so he was playing both sides and stood to lose big.

I got a nephew that thinks he is a Pats fan... all he ever gets from me is ****,... talk to me when you know what being a fan is.
Brady is the only pats qb he remembers... he was just a child who sought out his self esteem by picking a team that wins...punk ass has never even been outside of california, has zero ties to the pats...
he and I can discuss football in another twenty years when he knows what being a fan is.

WTF? All year... and every year you bang the drum as loud as possible about the Patriots way. And now you’re “sick of the drama”?

Mitch you lean whichever way the wind blows.

I think I summed it up the best I could, cheese...the Pats are a perfect storm of brilliant diligence (praiseworthy) and profitable dysfunction (loathsome).

The Patriots under McDaniels are going to be more George Seifert's Panthers than his 49'er teams.

:D:D:D

I guess Bruce Arians and the Cardinals aren't so bad after all ?

Guess Arians was not more arrogant than any other NFL coach, and the Cardinals front office is no different then most good front offices, win some and lose some.

Some of use were sick of the Patriots drama Week 1 of this season, were tired of reading about it here and were called out and shamed for it when they brought it up. Go figure.
Guess this is just the NFC Championship Loss to the Panther for the Patriots, in regards to the Superbowl loss, in some Patriots' fans eyes. :titanic:

So far I have not seen a NFL organization live up to the standards made by some on this board, not a single one. Wonder if one exists ? :?:

You could sum it up better by just saying: “

“I was wrong.”

God forbid you ever did that.

Micky D’s agent just dump him.
McDaniels agent is a typical agent. Bob Lamonte is very confusing. Seems he made the deal. Chris Ballard and Josh both repped by this clown. Strange relationship. He probably cut the back room deal.

And if I had already convinced several of my co-workers to jump ship with me, and they signed contracts and can't back out...

That part is the ultimate douchebaggery. Not sure why people are seeing that. And this isn't just any job.
Not everyone is a victim. I know it is the vogue in today's world but the NFL is a cutthroat business where bodies are merchandise. Isht happens.

LaMonte has future business to consider

he HAD to resign from McDaniels -- or with every future deal he does, the other side is going to wonder: will this blow up prior to a signature on a contract?

Heard a story about Lamonte last night on Fox Radio. Lamonte is a back stabber and a liar. Lamonte was playing a pro am golf outing with the brother of Steve Gorman, Jim Gorman, the host, who was unknowingly playing with Jim who was a Colt's front office employee at the time. He casually bragged to Jim Gorman that he had lied to Jim Irsay about a phantom offer for a player the Colts were pursuing at that time. He was lying to the Colts in order to up the Colt's offer for the player. Gorman jumped on the phone to relate the story to Jim Irsay. End of any offer for said player by Irsay yet Gorman is still Chris Ballard's agent. Strange bedfellows.
